Happy #WorldPangolinDay! Pangolins are the only mammals in the world with scales. These scales are made of keratin, the same substance as human fingernails and rhinoceros horn. When threatened, pangolins curl into a ball, shielding their body with their tough armor of scales. This behavior protects them from predators. Unfortunately, it also makes it easier for humans to collect them. Pangolin scales are falsely believed to have medicinal value, and unfortunately their meat is considered a delicacy. What can you do to help? Don’t eat pangolin or use pangolin products. February is AIT@40 Science Month.
