Have you ever been in a situation where you are asked to do something that you are not happy about but still did it because you feel saying "NO" is rude? The central dilemma most of us faced on daily basis, special those who are emphatic and nurturing because we are so careful to not hurt someone’s feelings. As much it sounds noble, the reality is not as pleasant at it seems. In the process of making sure others are well, we are just dissipating our most valuable personal resources—time, energy, and money—on things that aren’t important to us. Each time we agree to something without enthusiasm for interest, we waste a little more of these precious resources.

For many years, "Yes" has been my winning choice but recently "No" made a strong comeback! The main reason I flipped my choices is because I learned the importance of understanding my priorities. When someone come up to you for a help, you make a choice ; are you able to help them? Are you going out of your way to help them? Are you comfortable doing it? Remember, weight your priorities and YOU should always be your priority.

Sometimes, we say "Yes" for the sake of maintaining a relationship; I understand because I did that a lot too. I want to help, be present and try to make those people I love feel better but eventually I realize, it is not healthy. This was the buffer I needed to re-evaluate all my past decisions and realize, I’ve lost a lot of time and energy on things that aren’t actually an essence to my being.

I kept boundaries ; and the first rule is simple - doesn’t matter how we are but if I am not comfortable, I will say "NO". The first time I said "no", guilt was brewing inside of me but there was also a sigh of relief because I knew I’ve made myself the top most priority in my life.
