E.g. Jerry recommended a classic book on Buddhism to me.
Jerry向我推薦一本有關佛教的經典名著。
E.g. Florid recommends me try the pineapple cake.
Florid推薦我去吃看看鳳梨酥。
🕵️♂️從上述兩個例子來看,兩位都是再提供對方一個更好的選擇or選項,我們再來看看壹些補充單字吧!
🔗 recommendation 推薦、推薦信 (n.)
🔗 recommendable 值得推薦的 (a.)
✏️ suggest 建議、顯示、使人聯想到(v.)
🗣在中文中的suggest有很多種解釋方式,但我認為這個的使用情境會來得更加正式,語氣也會來得更強烈一些。
E.g. Gina's evidence suggests a different interpretation of the events.
Gina的證據顯示這些事件可能會有另一種解釋。
E.g. The manager suggested we accept Tony's idea as we don't have that much budget.
經理建議我們接受Tony的想法,因為我們沒有那麼多預算。
🕵️♂️從上述兩個情境來看,suggest較常運用在正式的場合中,語氣也是較為堅定與強烈的,一樣來看看ㄧ些補充的單字吧!
🔗 suggestion 建議、提議 (n.)
🔗 suggestive 暗示的、引起聯想的 (a.)
🔗 suggestible 耳根子軟的 (a.)
✏️ advise 勸告、規勸、建議採取 (v.)
🗣 adivse給人非做不可的感覺,後面通常會接上不做的後果,語氣的使用上是三者之間最為強烈的一個。
E.g. Experts advise that sunscreen be reapplied every one to two hours.
專家建議每個一到兩個小時重抹一遍防曬霜。
E.g. The manufacturer advises extreme caution when handling this material.
製造商建議搬運這種材料要格外的小心。
🕵️♂️從上述兩個例子來看,adivse的用意在於給人一個忠告,語氣也是最不委婉的一個字詞,因此以後聽到advise這個單字時耳朵真的要放大一點。

扭傷冷敷定熱敷?❄️🔥
一不小心扭傷腳踝,朋友說立即冷敷能止痛,亦有朋友說應該熱敷才能消腫,究竟哪一個方法才對?
冷敷目的是減慢患處充血的情況,亦能止痛去腫,一般適用於急性受傷,患處有紅、腫、熱、痛的症狀,此時宜冷敷處理,緩和充血,消除水腫。冷敷時不要直接將冰塊放在患處上面,宜用一個袋盛載冰塊,加入適量水紮好製成冰袋,並且最好隔著毛巾冷敷患處。冷敷時間不宜過長,每次10-20分鐘,休息10分鐘再敷。
熱敷目的是增加患處的血液循環,如果扭傷位置已沒有發紅或發熱症狀、瘀傷在形成72小時後皮下血管已凝血、或者屬於慢性炎症及痛症,例如慢性腰頸痛、肌肉疲勞等就適宜熱敷,促進血液循環,帶走局部發炎物質,亦能放鬆肌肉。熱敷可以使用熱毛巾或熱雞蛋,熱毛巾要注意溫度不宜過熱以免燙傷皮膚,熱敷患處10-20分鐘,將毛巾重覆弄熱使用;另外亦可以用薄毛巾包著烚熟的雞蛋熱敷患處,雞蛋在患處滾動亦有助溫通活血,加速消除瘀青。

Should you use hot or cold compression to treat sprains?
To treat a sprained ankle, some friends would suggest cold compress, while others would advise using hot compress to reduce swelling. So which is the correct method?
Cold compress can reduce the increased blood flow as well as relieve pain and swelling, and is suitable to use in emergency cases. Using cold compress on the injury that exhibit symptoms like redness, swelling, pain, and hot to touch, can reduce increased blood flow and water retention.
Avoid placing ice cubes directly on the injury. Put them in a bag with an appropriate amount of water, and cushion it with a towel before placing directly on the affected area. You should do this every 10 to 20 minutes, and repeat the action after a 10-minute rest.
Hot compress on the other hand encourages blood circulation. It is suitable to be used on the sprained areas that do not show redness or feel warm to touch; when blood clots have formed beneath the skin after 72 hours; also when chronic inflammation occurs, such as chronic pain on the neck and waist or muscle fatigue. Under such circumstances, hot compress improves blood circulation, relieves inflammation on specific areas, and helps relax the muscles.
You may use hot towel or warm boiled egg to carry out hot compress, but do keep an eye on the temperature of the towel to ensure it does not burn the skin. Place the item on the injury for 10 – 20 minutes, then warm the towel before reusing it. You may also wrap a boiled egg with a towel and massage the area to encourage blood circulation and speed up the healing process around the bruises.
