BWF=>TOP SEEDS TRIUMPH – SINGLES FINALS: YONEX ALL ENGLAND OPEN 2017
TEXT BY GAYLE ALLEYNE | BADMINTONPHOTO
Tai Tzu Ying underlined her current status as ‘the one to beat’ in Women’s Singles, today lifting her third straight World Superseries title.
Continuing where she left off last season, the Chinese Taipei player etched her country’s name in history at the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships in Birmingham. All England logo
In a battle of wills, as much as skills, the top seed and world No.1 outwitted Ratchanok Intanon, 21-16 22-20, to claim her country’s first Women’s Doubles success at the ancient and prestigious event. Her victory extended her unbeaten streak in the MetLife BWF World Superseries in which she concluded last year with titles in Hong Kong and the season finale in Dubai.
“It was an intense match so I am happy to win. I don’t think I made too many mistakes. The scores were always close. During the second game I was trailing a few times but I kept telling myself not to give up,” said the new champion
“When Ratchanok attacks she is really good. She is very tricky so I did a lot of work on my defence. I was trying to find opportunities so I could beat her.”
The much-anticipated last match of the finals lived up to its billing as both young – and equally talented – guns dug deep into their respective bags of tricks in the quest for glory. Audible gasps and repeated bursts of applause from spectators, who faithfully stayed until the finish, denoted how much they appreciated the deft touches, changes of pace and all-court wizardry which two of the best in the business rolled out during their clash of high intrigue.
In the end, it was a few points here and there – blended with the odd stroke of luck and daring – which turned the match in Tai’s favour. Intanon may well wonder how it all unravelled so quickly. At 20-18 ahead in the second game, she celebrated game point prematurely, only for Tai’s successful challenge to tighten the score to 20-19. In a flash, Intanon’s game point transformed into Tai’s championship point and, as Intanon’s shuttle strayed over the baseline, Tai delighted in her maiden All England crown; another big title for this small and unassuming athlete.
“It’s disappointing for me but it was a wonderful match,” said Intanon.
“I was nervous but I played well – but Tai played better. I will have to improve for future tournaments.”
If the Women’s Singles showpiece was evenly matched, the men’s equivalent was completely opposite as Lee Chong Wei put on a master-class, whipping Shi Yuqi, 21-12 21-10. The slick and easy manner in which he glided around the court, plus full-stretch dives and sizzling jump smashes, almost made a mockery of the national panic that surrounded his left-knee injury some weeks ago.^^page admin

Recitation Of The Buddha's Name & Mantra (English version below)
--------------
On one weekday night, two weeks ago, I met a male client to give him his newly-minted Chinese name. He saw me chanting the Rebirth in Pureland mantra before I consumed my food. Out of curiosity, he asked me, "Master, doesn't chanting during the night attract many spirits to come?"
Reciting "Namo Amituofo", "Namo Guan Shi Yin Pu Sa", etc is called recital of Buddha's name, whereas when you chant "Om Amideva Hrih", "Om Mani Pae Me Hom", you are chanting a mantra. Between reciting the Buddha's name and a mantra, do you choose only one? It would be ideal to both recite the Buddha's name and chant the mantra as the former is akin to calling out to a particular Buddha or Bodhisattva, while the latter is akin to touching Their hearts. The Buddha or Bodhisattva would know once you are in need, and would send the Dharma Protectors to your aid. Just like a shirt would not be complete without a collar, your merits would be complete if you recite the Buddha's name and chant His Mantra at the same time.
When you use mala beads to recite the Buddha's name or chant his Mantra, for every bead that you count, you are planting a Buddha seed deep into your subconsciousness, and these seeds would ripen in the future for you to attain Buddha-hood. To hold your mala beads with both hands symbolises you turning the wheel of Dharma with both your hands. And to hold your mala beads in front of your chest is a reminder for you to be focused when chanting.
You should not have other thoughts when you are chanting. The sounds of your recitation should ring in your ears and leave an imprint in your heart, and from there, a kind of power will emerge. Recitation of the Buddha's name and mantra is a form of demarcation and sets a boundary, making it impossible for the "third parties" to come in. Hence, there is no reason to think that chanting at night will attract the "invisibles". This is a misconception. When you are chanting, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will shine Their light on you. When you are surrounded by Their Light, the "invisibles" will not be able to get near you.
Secondly, when you are chanting or reciting, it would be audible to the other people in your surroundings, and these people would inevitably plant the seeds of salvation for themselves as well. We come with our own karmic debts and debtors. As you chant the mantra, your karmic debtors will hear and might even follow in your footsteps and start chanting for their own salvation too. We could all attain Buddha-hood together. This is great compassion.
Chanting the mantra is different from reciting the Buddha's name. However, by combining both of them would generate great power to help you overcome the obstacles in life, allowing you a smoother journey ahead. People might set up hurdles to make you fall or harm you. When the frequency of your chanting increases, these obstacles will be removed and you shall pass through them effortlessly.

Japanese Lyrics :
Chinese Lyrics :
English Lyrics :
Just what are the words I’ve piled up meant to protect?
I’d be satisfied with them merely making me stronger; I don’t need an answer anymore.
But if it were really nothing more,
Than something to cause me pain, it would be so sad;
Nonetheless, I’m still looking up to the sky.
Like the moon’s shadow when it has nowhere left to run, or a headwind increasing in strength,
An unknown thing obtained, in an unknown place, made an audible noise before vanishing.
That’s right: in the corners of the world, prayers and oaths exercise no meaning,
Forgetting where they belong only to walk on endlessly.
Just who is the blade we hold aloft meant to protect?
I’d be satisfied with it merely making me stronger; I don’t need an answer anymore.
But even if it was really nothing more,
Than something to cause me pain, I wouldn’t mind;
I’m still looking up to the sky.
Everything that reflects in my eyes is full of pain, even the scenery I see lying face down,
As the entirety of some unknown person’s desires gets carried away by the wind.
That’s right: just by the world spinning ’round, any hopes still left will exercise no meaning,
Leaving all who sought them to walk on endlessly.
Just what are the words I’ve piled up meant to protect?
If I can face my weaknesses, I’ll no longer have need for tears.
But if these days are to consist of nothing more,
Than repeating, “Farewell!”, “Farewell!”, it would be so sad;
Nonetheless, I’m still looking up to the sky.
Even now, I’m still searching for the stars.
The travelers who sought after the dawn,
Are a pale sun shining at midnight,
Walking on and on,
Until all the pain exchanged to and fro converts to heat.
Just what are the words I’ve piled up meant to protect?
I’d be satisfied with them merely making me stronger; I don’t need an answer anymore.
Just who is the blade we hold aloft meant to protect?
If I can face my weaknesses, I’ll no longer have need for tears.
Even if the only real purpose for this heart,
Is to be wounded, I wouldn’t mind;
I’m still looking up to the sky.

Video Title: How the CIA Ran a Secret Toy Operation in South Asia
"Guangdong, China, 2005. It was late at night. A factory manager made his way past the assembly line to the adjoining warehouse where a meeting was set to take place - a group of men had already gathered. He didn’t know exactly who these men were, but from his contact he knew they were important people. Not wasting any time he presented to them what they asked for — a toy that he and his colleagues had passionately been working on the past few months. Upon inspection, the men seemed pleased with the product, but in order to move to the next phase of operation, final approval was needed from Langley. You see, these men were from the CIA, and this operation, if successful, could help put an end to one of the greatest conflicts in modern time. But how? What was this toy? And who were they targeting? This happened in 2005, but what lead to this moment, actually started four years earlier..."
