糖尿病分為一型及二型,一型患者因自體免疫問題令身體無法製造足夠胰島素;而較多人患上的二型糖尿,一般發生在中年或較年長人士身上,多與肥胖有關,不良飲食習慣令胰臟工作過度,或壓力大令壓力荷爾蒙過度分泌,造成胰島素阻抗而患上糖尿病。如果你有5個或以上風險成因,就要注意身體症狀,定期進行身體檢查,戒除不良飲食習慣,讓糖尿病離你越來越遠。

Consuming too much sugar can lead to diabetes? Drinking sweet drinks regularly can increase your risk of getting diabetes? Are you at risk for diabetes?
Let’s take a look at risk factors:
☐ Having irregular meals
☐ Lack of coarse grains in diets
☐ Sweet tooth
☐ Feel dizzy when hungry
☐ Enjoy smoking and drinking alcohol
☐ Lack of exercise
☐ Stressful work
☐ Obesity, BMI exceeds 25
☐ Lack of sleep/insomnia
☐ Hereditary
☐ Aged 45 and above
☐ High blood pressure and cholesterol
☐ Gestational diabetes
There are two types of diabetes mellitus: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 patients cannot produce sufficient insulin due to the problems with their immune system. Type 2, which is more common, normally happens to elderly folks.
Type 2 diabetes is also associated with obesity and unhealthy dietary habits, which cause the pancreas to overwork. Excessive secretion of stress hormone, too, can inhibit the secretion of insulin, which in turn leads to diabetes.
If these risk factors seem familiar to you, then you should start paying attention to your health and go for regular body check-ups. Getting rid of all the unhealthy eating and drinking habits is the best preventive measure to keep diabetes at bay.

飲食不節慎防三高
朱先生:「最近做身體檢查,醫生說我在『三高』邊緣,如何解決這個中年危機?」
CheckCheckCin:「三高」即高血壓、高血糖及高血脂,可說是都市人的富貴病,長期飲食不節,經常進食高脂肪、高糖份、高鹽份食物,再加上缺乏運動、壓力大、作息不正常等因素,令各種身體指數超標。西醫會以各種藥物來降低血壓、血糖及血脂,而從中醫角度來看需要改善體質,必須改變生活習慣,才能從根源上緩解「三高」症狀。一般來說痰濕、血瘀及陰虛體質人士比較容易患上「三高」,因為痰濕體質人士脾氣虛弱,水液運化失調;血瘀體質人士則血脈不通;陰虛體質人士作息顛倒容易令血壓上升。
想改善「三高」情況,宜諮詢註冊中醫師對症下藥調理體質,飲食上宜清淡,多菜少肉,減少外食或加工食品,避免進食高脂肪、高糖份、高鹽份的食物;養成定期做運動的習慣,一星期最少三次,每次最少30分鐘,強度以輕微出汗為宜;避免晚睡熬夜;尋找合適的減壓方法,因為焦慮不安等負面情緒也會導致血壓上升。
山楂黑木耳茶
功效:活血涼血,紓緩肥胖、高血脂等症狀。
材料:山楂15克、黑木耳15克
做法:材料切絲,洗淨放保溫瓶,以熱開水沖洗一遍,再注入熱開水焗10分鐘即可。此茶可反覆沖泡至味淡,建議一星期飲用2-3次,連續兩星期為一個療程。
注意:孕婦不宜飲用。

Unhealthy diets and ‘the three highs’
“I just completed a body check-up recently, and the doctor told me I’m at risk of getting the three highs. What can I do to solve this mid-life crisis?”
CheckCheckCin: The three highs refer to high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol, and urban dwellers tend to have these problems. Poor dietary habits such as consuming foods that are high in cholesterol, sugar, and sodium, and the lack of exercise, inability to cope with stress, and unhealthy lifestyle would cause a spike in the readings.
According to Chinese Medicine, aside from using medication, an individual should improve the body constitution and lead a healthier lifestyle if he or she wishes to get these conditions under control.
In general, individuals with the damp heat, blood stasis, and yin-deficient body constitutions would develop the three highs more easily. Individuals with a damp heat body constitution have asthenic qi and spleen, and the fluid would stagnate easily in the body. Those with the blood stasis constitution may experience the stagnation of the blood and the vein. People with a yin-deficient constitution will experience a spike in their blood pressure if they constantly mess with their biological clock.
To improve the condition of the three highs, consult registered and licensed Chinese physicians, so they can prescribe you the right medicine and customize treatment for you.Eat lighter food, take more vegetables and cut down on meat, reduce eating out and processed food, and avoid eating foods that are high in cholesterol, sugar, and sodium.
Cultivate the habit of exercising regularly. Make it a point to exercise and sweat three times a week, and each session should last at least 30 minutes. Avoid sleeping late and find the most appropriate way to relieve your stress, as negative emotions can also trigger a surge in the blood pressure.
Chinese hawthorn tea with Black fungus
Effects: Activates and cools blood, relieves obesity and hyperlipidemia.
Ingredients: 15g dried Chinese hawthorn, 15g black fungus
Preparation: Cut the ingredients into slices and place into the thermos. Rinse with hot water once. Then add in hot water again and steep for 10 minutes. This tea can be rebrewed until its flavor weakens. For best results, drink consecutively for 2-3 days a week. Two weeks for a treatment.
Note: Not suitable for pregnant women.

三招提升精子質量
要成功懷孕,精子必須在形態、數量、活躍度及精液容量四方面都合格,才容易令女方成孕。提到精子質量問題,不少男生大都誤以為食鹿鞭、海狗丸可以壯陽,從中醫角度來看,其實不良生活與飲食習慣對精子質量影響最大,例如晚睡熬夜引致陰虛火旺,常食肥甘厚味及煎炸食物、吸煙飲酒引致痰濕、濕熱體質,工作壓力大以致氣血運行不暢等,胡亂進補反而適得其反,正確方法是按體質調理身體,才能提升精子質量。
1. 注意飲食作息
每日有足夠休息,避免熬夜,飲食清淡,少吃生冷、煎炸肥膩、即食食物,戒煙戒酒,按體質做適量運動,有助改善氣血及減壓。
2. 調理體質
現代人加班熬夜成常態,再加上放肆飲食、工作壓力大等原因,都容易造成痰濕、濕熱、氣滯等體質,氣血不暢通,加上痰濕長期在體內鬱久化熱,容易造成精子活動力不佳等症狀。宜諮詢註冊中醫師辨證論治,按個人體質調理,切忌胡亂服藥壯陽。
3. 房事有節
行房過密會減低精蟲數量,但行房太疏又會降低精蟲的活躍能力,建議一星期兩至三次,排卵期間隔日1次,可以保持精子的質素及活躍度,亦要留意行房後有沒有過份疲勞、不斷流汗、頭暈頭痛、腰酸耳鳴等症狀而作自我調節。

Three steps to improve sperm health
In order to conceive, the sperms must be in good shape, active, and come in a healthy quantity and semen volume. Many men have the misconception that they can improve their sperm quality by consuming deer whip and Strong Seal Pills.
From the perspective Chinese Medicine, bad lifestyle and dietary habits are the primary factors that affect the quality of sperms. Sleeping late can lead to yin deficiency and accumulation of heat in the body. Individuals who eat fatty, greasy, fried, and deep-fried food, as well as those who smoke and drink regularly may develop the phlegm-dampness and damp heat body constitutions. Men who are constantly under stress can also cause the circulation of the qi and blood in the body to stagnate.
Instead of eating random medicine to nourish the body and improve the sperm quality, the best way is to regulate the body according to its constitution.
1. Be mindful of our lifestyle and diets
Have enough rest every day, avoid sleeping late, eat healthily and avoid raw, cold, fried, greasy, and instant foods, avoid smoking and drinking, and exercise appropriately according to our body constitution. All these would help relieve stress and improve the qi and the blood.
2. Regulate the functions of the body
People living in the modern era tend to stay up late, do not control their diet, and constantly live under stress, and all these can llead to the formation of the phlegm-dampness, damp heat, and qi-stagnation body constitutions.
When the circulation of the qi and blood is disrupted and phlegm-dampness and heat accumulate in the body, the sperms’ activity would also be reduced. Consult a registered and licensed Chinese medicine practitioner to regulate the functions of the body based on our constitution. Avoid taking aphrodisiacs unnecessarily.
3. Make sure there is an interval between each sexual intercourse
Having intercourse too frequently may reduce sperm count, but not having intercourse actively would also reduce the sperms’ activity. Two to three times a week and the day after ovulation would be the best. Besides maintaining the activity of the sperms and their quality, anyone experiencing exhaustion, excessive sweating, dizziness, headache, soreness on the waist, and tinnitus should also make adjustments accordingly.

Vlog for Week 7
I lost a precious week from training cause I caught a bad flu bug, that gave me cough, fever, cold, sore throat, and diarrhoea. What a shebang but I'm a lot better now.
Since I was sick, I didn't train but I did maintain a healthy diet plan. I brought up the carbs a bit and maintained with protein as the majority of my nutrition pie chart.
Todays vlog i suggest the foods that you should be eating when you're sick. I say this because I know first hand that I wanted to eat all kinds of gunk. But here's where I want to say being sick doesn't give you an all access pass to eat crap. For me I calculated macros and it's even more important to eat nutritious foods because you're body needs it for repair.
Furthermore, I had no choice but to resort to antibiotics. Not good but how do i combat the meds that will also kill my good bacteria and maintain my gut health, keep watching :)
I'm down to 4 weeks left!!!! OMGOSHHH, There's so much to be done and i'm starting to get a lot more anxious now. Wish me all the best, honestly this round doesn't have optimal situations but i will make do and press on.
