The history of Makha Bucha is considered an important day of Buddhism. Due to an important event that occurred more than 2,500 years ago, the Lord Buddha Kotama delivered a speech in the midst of the Great Confederation of Buddhism.
Formerly there was no worshiping ceremony in Theravada Buddhism. Until the reign of King Mongkut (Rama 4), he preached the events of the Lord Buddha on the full moon day of the 3rd month because it is a very important day. Buddhist rituals should be performed in order to be a place of faithful worship. Therefore, there is merit in the management of Makha Bucha. The ritual may be similar to Visakha Puja Day, which is a various charitable practices and lighting candles according to the Buddhist traditions in the temple. Of the Emerald Buddha and various temples The ceremony was not yet widespread. Later, the popularity of the Makha Bucha ceremony spread throughout the kingdom.
Today, Makha Bucha Day is declared a public holiday in Thailand. Both Buddhists and royalty and people perform ceremonies such as making merit, giving alms and listening to the sermon, lighting candles, paying respect to the Triple Gem and an important event that is regarded as the day when the Lord Buddha creates a miracle which describes the doctrine.
