While in Hong Kong, citizens were still allowed to hold annual commemoration of the incident. Hundred of thousand of Hong Kong people, including students and seniors, gather every year on June 4th since 1990 for the candlelight vigil.⁣⁣⁣

2020 is the first year that the annual commemoration was banned by the HK police force by reason of Covid-19 public gathering restrictions. ⁣⁣

With the National Security Law on Hong Kong to be promulgated soon, some fear that 2019 would be the last time that Hong Kong were allowed to hold vigil.⁣⁣ ⁣

About 100 booths will be set up across the city to hand out candles. The organizers urged people to join the commemoration by lighting candles today. More than 3,000 riot officers will be deployed today to enforce the ban.⁣ #staysafe⁣
