Usually, I’m not the kind to gloat. Aw shucks, who am I kidding? For the past week, I’ve been crowing about Team Minnesota’s – I mean Team USA’s – performance at the recent Winter Olympics. Some of my fellow Minnesotans won impressive medals at the Pyeongchang Games. In one of my past posts, I celebrated the women’s ice hockey team’s gold (the team was chock full of Minnesota pride), but I am pleased to add that the men’s curling team (four out of five team members were from the Land of 10,000 Lakes), and cross-country skier, Jessica Diggins (an Afton, Minnesota native who carried the U.S. flag at the closing ceremonies), won gold. Finally, bronze medalist downhill skier Lindsey Vonn (from the Twin Cities) is considered one of the greatest skiers of all time. So how come they win so much? Well it doesn’t hurt that the winters there last a long time. But it is also because of the humble, competitive spirit in the Midwest. It’s a unique culture that even has a unique language. If you want to successfully speak to Minnesotan, watch this video. I’ll betcha a pop you’ll like it!…km
There are many dialects of #AmericanEnglish. Here's a video about one of them spoken often in Minnesota. Are any of the words or phrases new for you?
