We hope you enjoyed our #CollegeTownUSA series and will consider the United States as a part of your future travel and education plans. In the second half of the series, AIT consular officers shared with you some visa tips. Let’s recap: Be ready to talk with a Consular officer about why you want to study in the United States, why you choose your school, and why you have significant time gaps before going to college. And, don’t forget to work hard on your DS-160! We introduced 10 unique college towns around the United States, but there are so many others. If you are interested in learning more about studying in the United States, check out EducationUSA Taiwan Advising Center and register for a workshop. We look forward to seeing you there! ds-160 travel plans
The Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with its visa systems. This issue is not specific to any particular country or visa category. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working urgently to correct the problem and restore full operability.
Currently, we are unable to print most immigrant and nonimmigrant visas approved after June 8, 2015. In addition, AIT is unable to process new applications submitted on or after June 9, 2015. Individuals with visa interview appointments scheduled for June 14-20, 2015, should continue to monitor AIT’s website to know when to reschedule their appointments if they submitted a DS-160 online application after June 9, 2015. Appointments can be rescheduled by following the instructions located on http://ustraveldocs.com/tw/index.html. Individuals who submitted their DS-160 online applications prior to June 9, 2015, should plan to attend their scheduled visa interview appointments. Those with urgent travel should follow the instructions for expedited emergency appointment found on http://ustraveldocs.com/tw/index.html.
The technical issues also affected the Department of State’s ability to adjudicate applications for U.S. passports accepted overseas between May 26 and June 14, 2015. If you applied for a U.S. passport overseas during this time frame and have travel plans within the next 10 business days, please consider requesting an emergency passport at AIT. Information about how to apply for an emergency passport is available at: http://acs.ait.org.tw/passports.html.
We would remind travelers that operation of the Visa Waiver Program is unaffected, and eligible Taiwan travelers can still enjoy visa-free travel under the Visa Waiver Program.
