Some of my thoughts about this report showed as following:
1. Intel still makes 80% of CPUs for personal computers and 94% of them for servers. Its estimated revenue of 2020 maybe about $75 billion USD, and its net income $20.7B.
2. Its major rivalry, AMD, has the estimated revenue of $9.47B, up from $6.73B a year earlier(40.7% growth, YoY) and estimated net income of $1.5B, up from $756M (98% growth,YoY).
It means that every dollar growth in revenue can bring 2.4 dollars growth in net income, which reflects the feature of high-rent-value business. The economic scale decides the gross profit margin.
And this is the reason why Intel enjoys higher marginal rent value than AMD.
3. Besides Intel's dominant area, it had failed in RF and mobile device industry such as its doomed WiMax chipsets and mobile phone SoCs. Now it is facing two major problems: 1) its manufacturing skill has been left behind of TSMC for one or two generations; and 2) its lack of machine-learning products.
In the history, Intel had lost its competition against then Japanese companies in the RAM industry. Intel waived its white flag and turned into the CPU industry in 1980s. However, such successful turning point has never shown again since the launch of its wifi chipset. I do not have enough confidence in its new M&A strategy in the AI field.
4. On the other hand, the TSMC's 2 nm manufacturing advance is not unreachable for Intel. I think the nature physical barriers, like the quantum tunnelling effect, will delay the progress of IC manufacturing after 2nm. Although I've heard and read many issues in its manufacturing team. I still believe Intel's outstanding engineers can get things done after all. It only takes time and money. Nonetheless, this is another big problem. After TSMC having enjoyed monopolistic profits for quite a long time, even Intel could catch up with TSMC after spending about couple years and billions dollars, the remaining rent value will be limited for Intel. I am not sure whether the necessary costs of competition would be covered or not, especially considering that Intel has lost its big client, Apple. Of course, the intense competition would erode TSMC's rent value, too. It's not a good news for TSMC's investors who recently got on the board at such high stock prices.

尤其今天盤後公布財報的Microsoft(MSFT), 還有上週公佈財報的Netflix(NFLX), 在盤後都跌了一下.
“ Many active investors justify the valuations of technology giants by using huge revenue trajectories over decade-plus timelines and focusing on the cost and competitive benefits of achieving dominant scale. This low interest rate environment further helps them defend premium valuations. I think your investment philosophy will dictate your comfort with that approach. Philosophical differences aside, I believe investors in those companies fail to recognize that the widespread popularity of these stocks may undermine the long-term success of the investments. Most alpha (return above a benchmark) from information technology stocks comes from multiple re-rating. An already well-liked stock has little room for an upward rerating, but plenty of downside risk if the company disappoints. Widely favored stocks carry with them substantial mis-execution risk that investors often overlook.”

🌻投資idea
今天盤後Chipotle(CMG)發表財報了.

Ollie Bargain Outlets (OLLI)

Dollar General (DG).

‘We weren’t bringing out the best in each other(我們沒有讓對方變的更好)’.

[Why would a founder from Vietnam come to Taiwan to build his startup?]
Individual country economies in GSEA each have a mixture of strengths and weaknesses that are unique to them. Because of this, founders who are constructing a local play in their market can reach into other countries to find talent or resources to fill their native inefficiencies.
At the same time, they can leverage their strengths as a team and launch in other countries where certain consumer habits boost their ability to scale.
It turns out that in Taiwan, a particularly interesting dynamic exists that Hai Ho, founder of Vietnam-based travel startup Triip, used to shape his startup.
"Taiwan was a great gateway to Chinese-speaking countries [in SEA],” he says. In addition, the AppWorks accelerator program offered mentorship in e-commerce, platform building, and marketing.
And there was something else.
“There are also 200,000 (and growing) Vietnamese living in Taiwan. There are more daily direct flights between Taiwan and Vietnam, too. It is a good market.”
Founders wishing to get a clearer picture of where this complex spectrum of opportunities intersects throughout GSEA should dive into a really interesting report published recently by Asia Partners.
It looks at the scope of growth happening in the region, and how founders play a role in that growth. Here are two points I found pretty fascinating:
* Of the 28,000 former employees of tech companies in SEA, 1,200 of them have graduated on to developing startups in need of seed, Series A, or Series B capital.
* There is a significant Series C gap in the region. Founders aren't always able to readily identify where this capital exists to help their startups scale into market-dominant positions. A few VC firms that have established Series C-capable funds are now primed for developing solid growth strategies alongside founders in the region.
We are accepting applications for accelerator class #20.
If you are a founder from this region, and you want to tap into Taiwan's powerful e-commerce economy while building an AI or Blockchain startup, this is the perfect time to apply here: http://bit.ly/2OPznNE

Plugin
Youtuber
Djent God
Enjoy it ~ !!
