I’ve had a whole week off from fencing 🤺 over the half-term holidays, but today is my first session back. I can’t wait to see what our coach has in store for us this half-term…and hopefully my body hasn’t fallen asleep over the course of the holidays!

Hi everyone.
Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) needs our help! The damages are pretty bad and they need funds for restoration.
Please take time to read the update below.
**Update on August 13th wind damages**
Today we had a good look of the damages we suffered from the gusty wind and rain storm that last less than 10 min on the late afternoon of August 13th.
There were four big tress with diameter > 100 cm fell down, and a dozen of medium and smaller trees damaged as a result of hitting by the big tress, or snapped half way on the top. The scene is like a typhoon swipe through although typhoon never landed on this part of the world. The biggest tree that caused the most damage was a 50 m tall Seraya tree (Dipterocarp tree) that uprooted from Pen A with the tree crown fell on top of Platform 2, causing a total destruction on Platform 2. It is very sad to see the beautiful structures and trees turn into a pile of derbies. The force of the tree felling down was so great that the main support of the platform was banned, split off, and broke the cement that supported the base.
There were at least six stretches of the fencing suffered from severe damages that need to be replaced as a results from these fallen trees or tree branches. Our staffs have worked tirelessly to clear the debris and fix the fences today but still have a long way to fix to bring everything back to normal today.
This incident caused the most damages to the centre since we operated in 2008. The repairs of the platform and fences will for sure cost a lot of money and take a lot of time. We need fund to repair the damages ASAP so that the centre can resume its function and the bears can enjoy the forest enclosure again.
