The year was 2012. We are cramped in a tiny car along with director Jack Neo touring various states in Malaysia for the first time. We have been wearing the temasek green uniform for a few days already and we are starting to smell. It was probably the only group outfit we had and wearing pixelated no.4 was illegal. We reached the last mall of our tour and once again the crowd was small. We got off the car and stretch our bodies that are numb from hours of travelling in the small vehicle. The few that came were there for Jack as both Liang Xi Mei and Liang Po Po were household names. Jack was smooth on stage but we were raw and awkward with our banter. I remember Jack guiding our baby steps on stage. Nobody knew us.
Back on the cramp car and on our way back to Singapore. I thought silently to myself that this was gonna be the last movie promotion I was gonna do. I was smelly and totally tired. Everyone was fast asleep with our limbs and heads entangled. Ah boys to men 1 is premiering in Msia in the next few days. I am worried.
Fast forward 5 years, we are still in business. Shot countless programs and travelled to many more countries. Our raw and awkward banter had become our signature that everyone and the media grew to love. Nobody could imitate that chemistry. We became the benchmark.
I still remember the days I prayed for the things I have now.
