🇻🇳Conical hats have been famous in Thang Long (ancient Hanoi) area for centuries, and they were made in a village called Chung. At that time, villages bought raw materials from farmers from all over the mountain - sheaths of bamboo shoots, fishtail palms, palm leaves, bamboos and fern fibers.

After green palm leaves are dried under the sun for three times, they turn white. They are then spread out on the ground to become soft, and the creases are ironed with a heated ploughshare. Palm leaves are stitched to sixteen bamboo hoops of various size with fern fiber. Then, to make the conical hats whiter and to prevent moulding, they are reheated over the smoke of burnt sulphur.

This art is connected to the life of the village and to the whole nation, and has become one classic icon of Vietnam.
