There are various inequalities that exist in the world today - starkly shown through the challenges each country faces in dealing with the current pandemic.
Decades in, decades out, Martin Khor has been the consistent expert voice, reminding us all of the need to protect the vulnerable and ensure everyone benefits from policies that help address the ongoing inequality - whether economic or health.
His was a sharp incisive look at the existing economic regime - ranging from superfluous, complex trading rules, to the stranglehold exclusivity of patents - which have denied millions access to much needed life saving drugs.
His founding of the Third World Network back in 1984 helped set the gold standard for activism.
He remains a key referral to many politicians, and policy makers, shown through his various publications that most of us will continue to refer to.
He will never forget to remind me of the importance in ensuring affordability and accessibility for the have nots - in procuring the much needed medicines and other forms of mobility tools - often neglected for farmers, and fishermen, unlike those belonging in the top end of the economic food chain.
Incorrigibly optimistic, and encouraging until the end, his is a presence that Malaysia, the region, as well as other parts of the world - many whose lives, policy making and thinking he touched - will sorely miss.
Today and going forward, may we be able to better absorb his advice and reminders as we traverse the difficulties of the current global pandemic.

Terdapat pelbagai ketidakseimbangan di dalam dunia ini, terlihat dengan nyata menerusi kemelut yang dihadapi dunia dalam menangani wabak penyakit covid-19 yang melanda.
Berdekad-dekad yang lalu, Mendiang Martin Khor merupakan seorang pakar ekonomi yang secara konsisten bersuara, mengingatkan kita semua tentang keperluan untuk mengatasi kesenjangan antara kedudukan sosioekonomi - dan negara miskin- kaya, khususnya akses rakyat marhain kepada ubat-ubatan serta keperluan lainnya.
Segala pandangan daripada beliau ditujukan secara fokus kepada rejim ekonomi sedia ada daripada kewujudan peraturan perdagangan yang kompleks, kepada eksklusiviti paten yang telah menafikan berjuta-juta akses kepada penjimatan perubatan yang mampu menyelamatkan nyawa.
Selaku penubuh Rangkaian Dunia Ketiga pada tahun 1986, telah menjadi penanda aras kepada aktivisme berteraskan fakta kukuh; yang tidak mungkin disangkal.
Beliau akan tetap menjadi rujukan utama buat para ahli politik dan penggubal dasar. Tulus, saya akui, sehingga bila-bila pun penerbitan beliau akan dijadikan sumber rujukan.
Beliau tidak pernah lupa untuk mengingatkan saya perihal kepentingan dalam memastikan setiap rakyat termasuk petani, nelayan, mereka yang berada jauh di pedalaman mempunyai kemampuan untuk mengakses segala bentuk bantuan termasuk bekalan perubatan, bantuan kebajikan dan sebagainya. Tidak boleh diterima sekiranya fokus mana-mana kerajaan hanya buat mereka yang berada di dalam tangga ekonomi teratas.
Seorang yang begitu optimis, bersemangat, beliau merupakan permata buat Malaysia malah di seluruh rantau dengan idea-idea dan buah fikiran yang menyentuh keperluan setiap lapisan masyarakat - menuju masyarakat yang adil serta saksama.
Mulai hari ini dan seterusnya, semoga kita bersama dapat mengamati nasihat dan peringatan daripada beliau dengan lebih tekun dalam melewati waktu-waktu sukar seperti pandemik global yang sedang kita harungi bersama.
Buat makluman semua, hasrat terakhir beliau adalah supaya segala sumbangan boleh disalurkan kepada CAP dan SAM.

【玳瑚師父隨筆錄】 《給國家領袖的祝福》
My Wishes for Our Country's Leader (English version below)
大概三年前，吾算出這幾年内李光燿先生的健康將會亮起紅燈，所以告訴弟子要多留意他的消息，有什麽消息，要第一時間告訴吾。
上星期得知李顯龍總理要接受前列腺切除手術時，吾翻開農民曆查看他動手術的日子，看了之後，會心一笑。那日子對他有利，手術一定會成功。國家領袖背後應該也有高人指點。 感恩。
在李總理的臉書賬戶上，有人祝福有人詛咒。而近日咱們的國父李光燿先生因感染严重肺炎入院，也一樣有人祝福有人詛咒。
當一個國家的元首或者領袖真的是非常非常地不容易，尤其是在我們新加坡。新加坡本身什麽天然資源都沒有，一切都要靠人力物力。國家搞得不好，財團哪會願意來這裡設厰，製造更多的就業機會呢？ 顧一個家庭就已經很難了，而領導者顧的是這麽多的人和事。吾看李總理上任不久後，頭髮都變白了，可見要耗的精神和承受壓力有多大。
身為一個「人」，應該是祝福一個「人」。如果你覺得他做得不好，你又何必象他一樣不好呢？開口詛咒人，你認爲你就是好嗎？千萬不要，這樣顯得我們小氣巴拉，顯得我們沒有素養、沒有學養、沒有修養、沒有涵養。我們要做一個有學養的人，要先去了解清楚。如果是你當家，你患上這種病例，那人家在詛咒你，“另類”地祝福你，你的感受會如何？大家要將心比心，這樣才是正人君子，這樣才是一個「人」。
世界各地沒有一個政府是完美的，只因這是人間。能夠生長在新加坡，已是一個大福報。很多國家都沒有比新加坡來得穩定繁榮。不要還沒有報國恩，就變成一個“負心”的人。在因果上，當你辱駡一個人的時候，其實你是在將你的福份大量地扣給那個人。
吾玳瑚師父祝福我們國家的李顯龍總理速速地康復，繼續地為國家謀取更好的福利，更希望國父李光耀先生能早日從病苦中解脫。

About 3 years ago, I deduced that the health condition of Mr Lee Kuan Yew would show signs of deterioration in the coming years. I told my disciples to look out for any related news and keep me informed.
I got to know last week that our Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, was scheduled to undergo a surgery to remove his prostate gland. I checked the surgery date in the Farmers Calendar and was relieved that the date was beneficial to PM Lee. I knew that the operation was going to be a success. He must have gotten sound advice on the date from advisers of high caliber. Thank goodness for that.
On the Facebook page of PM Lee, many left well wishes and there were some who made unkind comments. And recent news on our Founding Father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who got hospitalized due to pneumonia, attracted similar well wishes as well as unkind remarks.
It is a very arduous job to be the leader of a country, especially in Singapore. We do not have any natural resources and have to rely on human resources. If the country is not managed well, which business would want to invest in our country and where will our employment opportunities come from? To manage a family is challenging enough, let alone to run a country with a myriad of complex issues and people. I saw that Mr Lee Hsien Loong has turned silver-haired not long after he became the Prime Minister. One can imagine the amount of stress and mental exhuastion he had to undergo.
As a human being, we should have well wishes for another human. If you feel that he did a bad job, why follow suit? To curse someone does not make you any better. Please do not do that. It would make you seem like a petty person with no proper upbringing and education. We should be learned and understand the situation first.
If you are in his shoes, and you contracted similar illness, how would you feel if you are on the receiving end of unkind comments? Please think about it like how a real gentleman would. That is how a human being should behave.
There is no perfect government in the world as this is the mortal world. To be living in Singapore is already considered a great blessing. There are many countries who do not possess our level of stability and prosperity. Do not be the heartless one who has not repay the privileges given by your country. In the eyes of karma, when you scold and humiliate a person, you are, in fact, transferring a huge amount of your merits to that person.
Master Dai Hu wishes PM Lee a speedy recovery, and may he continues to strive to better our country. It is also my sincere hope that Mr Lee Kuan Yew be free from the sufferings of ill health soon.

Hello大家好久不見我來了！
這是美&加旅遊的最後一個vlog了♡
