You better go back home earlier tonight as hungry ghosts wander all around Hong Kong TODAY!
Check out new YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/IByOeRCLWfE
In the Chinese society, the seventh month in the lunar calendar is considered as "Ghost month". The gates of hell open and restless spirits roam the world. Today is the 14th day of the seventh lunar month, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival 盂蘭節. People appease the angry ghost after the ghost have wander the earth for two weeks. You will find locals burning paper offerings in Tin can on the roadsides everywhere in these few weeks. Food like Tofu, and bean sprout, which are easy to chew, will also be offered to make sure the ghost are not hungry so that they will not get angry. (You can buy a bowl of food for the ghosts including Tofu, bean sprout and rice in the wet market)
We also avoid water activities (Older generation says the water ghosts will pull you down to the water) and going back home late.
You used to see huge ceremonies held around HK on the Ghost month. But many is still cancelled this year due to the strict social distancing rule. The photos here show you the ceremony held in 中區卅間街坊盂蘭會 Staunton street, Central in 2019.
There was one held in Sycamore Playground in Tai Kok Tsui this year (ended on 19/8). The Chinese Opera started at 6pm, so I decided to go back home earlier instead 😅
The Chinese opera is actually for the ghosts to watch such that they won’t wander around and cause trouble!

=================================
--------------------------------------------------
1) Hangry
--------------------------------------------------
“Hungry(お腹が空く)”と“Angry(イライラする))”を合体させた造語です。 「I'm really hungry」や「I'm starving」の代わりに使える表現です。
<例文>
A: I'm almost ready. I just need to do my hair real quick.
B: Hurry up! I haven't eaten anything all day. I'm so hangry!
例えば、「Let's go to Disneyland this weekend.(今週末、ディズニーランドに行こう)」の誘いに対し、「YAAAS!」
<例文>
A: Do you want to get ice cream after dinner?
B: YAAAS! I wanna (want to) go to Creamistry? I love their ice cream.
<例文>
A: You're going to quit your job and travel the world for a few years!?
B: Yup! It's something that I've always wanted to do. YOLO!
<例文>
A: All my friends are going to Las Vegas this week. They're going to have so much fun. Maybe I should just blow off my job interview and go with them.
B: What are you talking about? You have a bad case of FOMO. I'm sure you guys will go to Vegas again. You better go to your interview!
<例文>
A: I love you Bae!
B: Eww! Don't ever call me Bae again. You're too old to use that.
「This party is about to get cray cray!(かなりやばいパーティーになりそう!)」
<例文>
A: Oh my god! Did you just down that whole bottle of shochu? You're so cray!
B: Yup! It's party time! YOLO!
--------------------------------------------------
7) Bromance
<例文>
A: I seriously love you man! You're the best!
B: It looks like you two really got a bromance going on. You guys need some time alone?
--------------------------------------------------
8) Man-crush
✔月曜日は「#MCM(Man Crush Monday)」、水曜日は「#WCW(Woman crush Wednesday)」とハッシュタッグを使って憧れの男性や女性の写真を投稿するのがSMS上で流行っている。
<例文>
A: I'm not gonna (going to) lie. I've got a man-crush on George Clooney. That dude looks amazing for his age!
B: If you want to look like him, you better start hitting the gym and cutting down on your beers.

Lyrics:
Midday snack oh what have we got
Want a little of a sweet from the bottom to the top
Want something small, not little but a lot
Sweet and tasty, are you hungry are you not?
I’m hungry, I’m angry, I’m craving boba
You want it, I want it, the taste on your tongue
Craving for some boba, and a little bit of mee
That’s just what I want and a little bit of tasty
Goreng lagi yang kuharapkan
Boba lagi yang kuimpikan
Biar boba dengan mee
Konfem ni tasty
