ZRXは1994年に発売された。その頃、既にベストセラーとなっていたゼファーとは別に、走りに重点を置いた400ccネイキッドとしてデビューし、Z1000Rローソンレプリカを彷彿とさせる直線基調のデザインや大柄な車体デザインと相まってベストセラーになる。翌年にはビキニカウル等を取り外し、オーソドックスなマルチリフレクター丸目1灯ヘッドライトと砲弾型メーターのZRX-IIが発売される。
1998年に大々的なマイナーチェンジが行われ、400ccで唯一の 6ポッドキャリパ ーを装備し、タイヤがラジアル化され、マフラーはメガホンタイプからオーソドックスなスポーツタイプへと変更された。また2004年にはシリーズ初の特別仕様車として社外マフラーを取り付けたARK特別仕様車が100台限定で発売。この車種のカラーはライ ムグリーンであり、またストライプが通常モデルと異なる。 2004年モデルからイモビライザーが標準装備され盗難防止効果を高めている。また、 2005年モデルからは、ビキニカウルをZRX1200Rと同一の物とし、デザ イン上の差異を少なくしている。
ZRX/II
