We are on the Singapore Flyer, woohoo! And guess what, we have the whole capsule to ourselves! *cue dancing and laughing and screaming*
Last night was my second time on board the Flyer, the first being a decade ago with my parents and the firstborn who was only one year old then. It was a special night out for all of us, especially for the two younger ones who were experiencing it for the first time ever and were super excited.
Granted, it was dark and the rain had just stopped not long ago so there were water droplets on the glass. Still, we loved the night view of our city and enjoyed every moment of the ride. The kids tried to spot the different landmarks and even attempted to look for our home which was far away, haha. It was also a huge challenge to take a group photo as there was no one else with us and this was the best one we got. Good enough for keepsake, right?
We initially wanted to have dinner at The Food Street but alas it was closed. Thankfully, we managed to get some eggs and toasts before we boarded. The kids were awesome on the trip to and fro, though we had to walk and change trains a couple of times each way. We ended up reaching home at 11pm where we dug out fruits and leftovers from our fridge, and air fried some nuggests and chicken wings as our dinner-cum-supper. It was a fun night out and one that we will talk about for quite some time for sure. See my IG highlights for more.
P.S. I redeemed our tickets using my SingapoRediscovers Vouchers and bought the Flyer and Time Capsule bundle on @klooksg. The adult ticket price was $35 while the child one was $10, meaning it was free for them after deducting the subsidies. So I redeemed $30 and ended up paying $5 only. Yippee!

Today we come to the final PART 3⃣ of #TheFatimahShow - DON’T WASTE FOOD!
.
So overall, what have we learned? Wasting food is BAD! Want to reduce waste but also help the needy? SHARE! Wasting food is not okay! Every meal we waste is somebody else’s meal, and that’s being thrown away carelessly! By sharing food with someone in need, you will be doing two good deeds, not wasting food and helping a fellow human.
.
Now, it’s good to share, but that doesn’t mean sharing the leftovers 😁 Those who need help are just like us, and they should be treated equally. Let them eat what we’re eating, not what we don’t want to eat.
.
“When Allah talks about giving to those who are in need of money, food, clothing, etc. in Surah Al-Isra, He doesn’t refer to it as ‘helping the poor’ or ‘giving charity to the poor’. Allah refers to this act as giving them what is their right and what they deserve. It is their right upon me and you and Allah is watching.” - Nouman Ali Khan
.
So to tackle the problems of food waste and scarce food sources in other situations, we share, right? If you know you have excess food, share it with the needy. Or as Dr Auntie suggested, sponsor a meal with PennyAppeal 🧡 Not only will you reduce waste, you will make someone else’s day too!
.
And keep in mind that these acts of goodness should not just be performed in the month of Ramadhan. They should be done all year round! It is only when you keep on doing it that you make it count.
.
At the end of the day, Ramadhan is not a festival of food. Never forget that the real meaning of Ramadhan is to remember those people who are less fortunate than us, not by celebrating it with an extensive amount of food.
.
But above all, remember! We are blessed every day! Look around us. The clothes we are wearing are a blessing, the house we live in is a blessing. Food is definitely a blessing, so we shouldn’t be throwing it away! The world itself is a blessing, so we must take care of it and its inhabitants. Reduce food waste, share with someone needy so that TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!

PART 1️⃣ #TheFatimahShow is back, with a brand NEW topic to discuss - DON’T WASTE FOOD!
.
Fasting makes us feel much hungrier than usual, and we’re tempted to eat more than we normally do. This is often more than we can take in. Our appetite grows bigger, but our stomach stays the same! Because of this, we cook or buy more food and end up wasting the leftovers.
.
The fact that we feel like eating more is just psychology, because we are so hungry. So we cook more, buy more and WASTE more in the end. There really isn’t a point in preparing more food. The portion you can take in still stays the same!
.
It really is a shame, all this food being tossed away like it has no real value, when in truth, it means a lot in keeping us alive! Now don’t think you are alone in craving to eat the whole menu to break your fast. That’s a natural feeling! But even so, you can only really manage to eat about one or two things and that’s about it. We need to take control of that hunger, and keep our portions sensibly sized.
.
Wasting isn’t something to be friends with. Throw out those bad wasting habits and cook how much you know you can eat. Anyway, the reason we fast in the month of Ramadhan is not to dig out some fancy new recipes. The real meaning of fasting in Ramadhan is to open our eyes and feel sympathetic to those less fortunate than us and understand what they are going through, and realise how blessed we are every day!...TO BE CONTINUED!
.
“Eat and drink, but waste not by excess, for Allah loves not the wasters.”
- Surah Al-A’raf, Verse 31, Al-Quran
