HELPING OLDER WORKERS
Our life expectancy is now the longest in the world - 84.8 years! Singaporeans are living longer and many wish to work longer.
The Government will fully support both older workers and employers in this endeavour.
Last year, Singapore Ministry of Manpower set up a Tripartite Workgroup on Older Workers. The Government accepts their recommendations in full.
- Raise the Retirement Age from 62 today to 63 in 2022, and eventually to 65 by 2030.
- Raise the Re-employment Age from 67 to 68 in 2022, and eventually to 70 by 2030.
- Increase CPF contributions for older workers. We will start raising the rates for workers above 55 in 2021, and subsequent steps thereafter. By the time the whole process is done, in 10 years or so, those 60 and below will enjoy the full CPF rates. CPF rates will only begin to taper down after 60, and level off after 70.
The Public Service will take the lead by raising Retirement and Re-employment Ages by one year from 2021, instead of 2022. I encourage private sector companies that can, to do the same.
