.
Before Mia arrived, I, like all mothers, fantasized about all these wonderful moments:
first time she looks at you,
first time she laughs,
first step,
first time she calls me “mama”
But reality isn’t as wonderful as imagined:
there are those sleepless nights,
times when I have no clue what’s upsetting her, and non-stop worrying about her development.
.
People ask me if I’ve enrolled her for any playgroups or if I’ve decided which school for her to go to, the answer is no. Her health and well-being is my priority at the moment, and having Smart Cells making my baby’s health their priority as well relieves me of a lot of stress and anxiety.
.
Being the first company in the UK to release stored stem cells to treat children with life-threatening illnesses, Smart Cells has been with me since day one of my pregnancy until the day Mia arrived, and will be for 25 more years.
.
Before that, I never knew the stem cells collected from my baby’s umbilical cord can be used to protect my family from over 80 conditions and diseases, including Leukaemia, Anaemia, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Impaired Immune Systems.
.
Thank you Smart Cells Hong Kong 英國寶諾臍帶血庫 for safeguarding me and my loved ones.

Summer of 2020 is coming to an end soon, but an effective vaccine against SARS-CoV is yet to be discovered. With the winter coming to the northern hemisphere, we are preparing for the flu season by storing masks and racing to develop the COVID-19 vaccination that could potentially end this nightmare once for all. However, this vaccine race shouldn’t be about who comes up with the first “Sputnik” but rather should be the collaborative effort of the global community because the virus recognises no borders.
There are other respiratory diseases this winter we should be drawing our attention to. In particular the influenza, because it is potentially life threatening yet preventable by vaccination. Pregnancy increases risk of severe respiratory complications from influenza, which can also cause adverse effects on the fetus. The flu vaccine reduces risk of infection and complications from influenza. Most obstetrics societies around the world are in supportive of flu vaccination during pregnancy. (Although only about half women choose to receive the vaccination during pregnancy.) Current epidemiological studies (involving surveillance programs of several millions of the population) do not show increased adverse pregnancy complications associated with the flu vaccination. Hence pregnant women and their families should consider taking regular flu shots to protect their themselves and their families.

GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical Sdn. Bhd. (GSK Malaysia) on 12 November 2019 launched its Vaccinate for Life campaign in Malaysia to raise awareness and educate the public on the importance of vaccinations and vaccine preventable diseases. Backed by a long standing legacy in Malaysia for the past 60 years, GSK a science-led global company with a purpose, through this campaign, aims to highlight the importance of vaccination throughout life.
GSK’s Vaccinate for Life campaign, launched in conjunction with World Pneumonia Day on 12 November, was attended by Dato’ Dr. Musa Mohd Nordin, Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, Dr. Yong Junina Fadzil, Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiologist, Dr. Lien Pham, General Manager, GSK Malaysia and Mr. David Lin, Communications & Government Affairs Director, GSK Malaysia.
Dato’ Dr. Musa shared, “As we age, our immune system does too. This makes us vulnerable to life-threatening diseases. By strengthening our immune system with vaccination through scheduled administration of vaccines, we can certainly protect ourselves and those closest to us and eventually help save lives. The vaccinations we receive as children can certainly protect us from life-threatening or debilitating diseases and lays the foundation for a stronger immunity later in life.”
Lets spread the awareness of this campaign.
Sharing is caring, you can also consult your healthcare professional on vaccination against pneumonia and pneumococal disease today.
