“London Bridge is Falling Down” is a terrible kids song because it’s most well-known lyrics are declarations of destruction.
Similarly, in “Rock-A-Bye-Baby”, the lyrics curse a baby to fall dangerously from a tree bough.
In “Sing A Song of Sixpence”, a maid’s nose gets tragically pecked off—the mental image is just really graphic.
We must be careful what songs we listen to and sing. Our spoken words have power to produce life and death.
When listening to enjoyable songs, we become relaxed and more open to receiving and believing the lyrics that we sing.
Knowing this, listening to praise and worship songs that magnify Jesus, His finished work at the cross and God’s love, can build your faith and cast out fear and unbelief from your heart.
Think of worshipping the Lord with songs as softening a plot of land (your heart) in preparing for planting seeds.
The more prepared the soil is, the better.
Worshipping before you read and listen to the Gospel can fill your heart with faith and help you easily believe God’s word!
