#Learn from Taiwan
Let's learn from Taiwan 🇹🇼
I have been living here for two and a half years and am very impressed with the way they have handled the COVID-19 situation. This country is incredible and the prevention measures it has taken have been planned since SARS outbreak back in 2003. #TaiwanNumber1
1. You cannot enter any public place without first checking the temperature.
2. There are a few stamps per day to get on the buses. And you need to check the temperature, clean your hands and shoes before getting on.
3. They disinfect with chlorine/alcohol every day in the classrooms of all schools and universities, also in the dorms.
4. There are alcohol sprays on every door.
5. There are applications (made by Taiwanese themselves) that tell you where you can go to buy your masks according to your national ID or health insurance card. Now Taiwan is one of the largest mask exporters because when the problem started in China they agreed with private companies to manufacture masks for all citizens. The government assigned non-woven fabric manufacturers to produce masks, whose major product lines didn't include masks.
6. If the citizen has flu symptoms, cough, discomfort, it is mandatory that he/she wear a mask.
7. People are required to manifest their symptoms and their flight history. If they have passed through Korea, Italy, China, HongKong or Macau. They must quarantine for 14 days. For not following the instructions of the state, the person must pay a fine (not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of Taiwan dollars).
The big-data system is coordinated by a trans-woman 🏳️🌈 who worked in Silicon Valley and helped in this crisis. Everyone knows that she is transsexual and there is no problem or discrimination, in fact they are proud of her and thank her for her work. Now it is so easy to know the cases. Who was familiar to whom and how did they catch it? The information can be easily accessed by all the citizens. The system implemented by it is the reason why the country has so few cases compared to the rest of Asia. While Japan reports hundreds, Korea,U.S. and Europe thousands, Taiwan only has 46 cases.
About 300 Taiwanese people living in China came yesterday, and the government worked very hard to get China to send them back. All will be quarantined for 14 days, receiving medical attention. They were received with buses and specialized costumes. The photos look like a movie, however all these measures are taken to guarantee the health of all citizens.
I just hope other countries also follow these measures as they have been proved effective in Taiwan, an island country which is not far from China where the outbreak started. Shame on WHO for not making them a part of the organization.
