日常会話では定番の「Far」の使い方4パターン
=================================
英語の「far」は「遠い」を表す単語として覚えている人も多いと思いますが、日常会話では「遠い」以外にも様々な使い方があります。今回は、日常会話でよく使われる「far」を使った代表的な4つの使い方をご紹介します。

1) Far away
→「遠く離れている」
--------------------------------------------------
Farは「距離が遠い」を意味する単語として使われるのに対し、 far awayは今自分がいる場所から何かが「遠く離れている」と言いたいときによく使われます。例えば、渋谷で一緒に遊んでいる友達に「Where do you live?（どこに住んでいるの？）」と聞いたときに友達が「I live in Gunma prefecture.（群馬県に住んでいます）」と返事をしたとしましょう。そんなときに「You live far away!（ここから遠く離れた場所に住んでいるね）」と言うと、今いる場所（渋谷）から群馬が遠いことを表します。ここでは、「You live far!（遠く離れた場所に住んでいるね）」と言うこともできます。
✔「How far did you walk?（どのくらいの距離を歩いたの？）」や「How far can you jump?（どのくらいの距離を飛べますか？）」のように、一般的な「距離」に関しては far away は使えないので使い方には注意。
＜例文＞
It's a 45-minute walk? That's too far away.
（歩いて45分なの?遠すぎるよ。）
I don't mind walking. How far away is it?
（歩いてもいいよ。ここからどのくらい遠いの？）
Are you sure you want to drive to Fukuoka? It's pretty far away.
（本当に福岡まで車で行きたいの？ここから結構遠いよ。）

2) So far
→「今のところ」
--------------------------------------------------
So far は「今のところ〜」を意味します。例えば、ロスに留学している友達に「今のところロスはどう？楽しんでる？」と聞きたいときに「How is L.A. so far? Are you enjoying it?」のように言います。So far は一般的に文頭と文末で使われ、「今のところ楽しんでいるよ」と言いたい場合は「So far, I'm enjoying it. / I'm enjoying it so far.」という具合に使います。ちなみに、「今のところは順調です」や「今のところは大丈夫です」は「So far, so good.」と言います。
✔That's so farはThat's very farと同じように「すごく遠い」を意味するため、状況に応じて「すごく遠い」の意味として使われているのか、「今のところ〜」の意味で使われているのかを判断する必要がある。
＜例文＞
I'm really enjoying my new job so far. It's been challenging but rewarding.
（今のところ新しい仕事を楽しんでいます。やりがいがあります。）
So far, 10 people signed up to the event.
（今のところ、イベントに10人の申し込みがありました。）
So far, so good. I'm almost done with my project.
（今のところ順調だよ。プロジェクトはもうすぐ終わりそう。）

3) Far better
→「〜よりもずっと良い」
--------------------------------------------------
Far betterはmuch betterやway betterと同じ意味を持ち、「〜よりもずっと良い」や「〜よりもはるかに優れている」を意味します。特に二つのものを比較するときに使われることが多く、例えば、「彼女の英語の方が私より英語よりもはるかに上手い」と言いたいときは「Her English is far better than mine.」と言います。ここではbetterだけを使うこともできますが、far betterを使うことによって「自分より上手である」ことがより強調されます。
また、「～は全然違う」と表現する際はfar differentを使うことができます。例えば「東京と大阪は全然違う」と言いたいときは「Tokyo is far different from Osaka.」のように表現することができ、far differentはvery differentの意味合いとして使われます。
ちなみに、「〜過ぎだ」をfar too ~を使って表すことができます。例えば、「それは高過ぎるよ」は「That's far too expensive.」、「それは私には難しすぎるよ」は「That's far too difficult for me.」と言い、tooを強調する役割としてfarが使われています。
✔ロサンゼルス特有かもしれませんが、far better / far different / far too~よりもway better / way different / way too~の方がよく耳にするような気がします。
＜例文＞
This hotel is far better than the last one.
（このホテルは前回のホテルよりもずっと良いね。）
Sky diving is far safer than driving a car.
（スカイダイビングは車を運転するよりもはるかに安全だよ。）
He works far too much.
（彼は働きすぎだよ。）

4) By far
→「断然〜」
--------------------------------------------------
By far は「断然〜」や「飛び抜けて〜」を意味する表現です。特に、何かが一番であることを強調するときに使われ、例えば「〜は断トツで一番」は ~ is by far the best、 「〜は飛び抜けて悪い」は ~ is by far the worst、「〜は間違いなく一番大きい」は ~ is by far the biggestのように表します。例えば、「このラーメンはこれまで食べた中で断トツで一番だ！」と言いたい場合は「This is by far the best ramen I've ever had.」と言います。by far は文末に持ってくることもできますが、be動詞の後に使われることが多いです。
＜例文＞
Goro is by far the cutest cat I've ever seen.
（ゴロはこれまで見てきた猫の中で間違いなく一番可愛い。）
Japan is by far my favorite country in the world.
（日本は断トツで世界一好きな国だ。）
He is by far the funniest person that I've ever met.
（彼はこれまで出会った人の中で間違いなく一番面白い人です。）

1. Do you like sports?
Yes, I’m really keen on sports. I hit the gym club on a daily basis and have my personal trainer help me reach my fitness goal. By taking part in some activities at the gym like running or riding bicycle, I also refresh my mind and recharge my battery.
2. Do you often watch sports on TV?
To be honest, watching sport is not really my cup of tea because I find it rather boring. Moreover, as I’m always busy with my work and study, I spare my leisure time to pursue other interests like listening to American music or going shopping.
3. What is the most popular sport in your country?
In my country, football is the most common sport activity and it acquires its reputation for The King of Sports. Two teams will defend in a football pitch, try to take possession of the ball, pass it to the teammates and aim to score a goal. They also try to avoid injuries and booking. People prefer football than any kinds of sports because of the animating atmosphere it brings back.
4. Do you prefer watching or playing sports?
Absolutely I’d prefer engaging in some sport activities rather than to sit in a dump place to watch others having fun. Firstly, playing sports helps us to keep fit and stay healthy. Secondly, it also enhances people’s competitiveness to win a match. Finally, I believe that sports also teach us about discipline to play fair and how to cooperate with other people to blow a competition away.
5. Are boys and girls interested in the same sports?
Obviously there are outstanding differences in the sports activities that both genders are keen on participating in. For boys, they are into some strenuous sports like volleyball, badminton to build up their strength and muscle. However, girls are big fans of some relaxing activities like yoga or ballet to get into shape and stay healthy.
6. Do you often exercise?
I used to be a couch potato, but then I gain a lot of weight, making me unable to put on any of my favorite clothes. And this had pushed me to hit the gym every day to lose the pounds. I has stuck with it for about few months now and the result is so amazing! I can be confident with my body again now.
7. How do you exercise?
When going to the gym, the very first step that I need to take is to do some warm up by stretching, bending over and doing jumping jack. After this stage, I will work out very intensely with some exercises like deadlift or squat, which can put my muscles in pain for the first few days.
8. Will you exercise in the future?
Yes, definitely. I will take up football, which is the type of sport that I have always wanted to try. I’ll start it by practicing controlling the ball with my legs, and then I will find a friend who plays semi-professionally and ask him to teach me in more details. If I do well with it, maybe I will join in a local football club.

久しぶりに伺った大好きな焼肉店！神奈川県大和市『ホルモンセンター天狗家アスロード店』に久しぶりに伺いました。全国の美味しいと言われる焼肉店を数々食べ歩いてきましたが、久しぶりに食べてもやはり質量共に文句なしのハイレベル！コスパもとにかく素晴らしくて、地元の常連の方の間では「天国」と呼ぶ方もいるそうです笑 小田急線「桜ヶ丘駅」と「大和駅」の間に本店があり、今回伺ったのは小田急線・相鉄線「大和駅」から近いアスロード店です。その肉質、ボリュームはぜひ実際の動画でご覧下さい!!

My favorite yakiniku restaurant I visited after a long time! I visited "Hormon Center Tenguya Asroad Store" in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture for the first time in a while. I've been eating a lot of yakiniku restaurants that are said to be delicious all over the country, but even if I eat it for the first time in a long time, the mass is still at a high level! Cospa is just wonde？rful, and some local regulars call it "heaven" lol There is a main store between "Sakuragaoka Station" and "Yamato Station" on the Odakyu Line, and this time I visited the Odakyu Line. It is an ass road shop near "Yamato Station" on the Sotetsu Line. Please see the actual video for its meat quality and volume !!
