Panic บริษัทซอฟท์แวร์ที่ร่วมพัฒนา Mac และ iOS มาแล้วกว่า 20 ปี รวมถึงเป็นผู้พัฒนาเกม Firewatch ประกาศอย่างเป็นทางการว่าเครื่อง Playdate จะเปิดให้สั่งจองล่วงหน้าได้ภายในเดือนกรกฎาคมนี้

หลังจากเปิดตัวมาตั้งแต่ปี 2019 ล่าสุดก็มีการอัปเดตความคืบหน้าของเครื่องดังกล่าวเป็นที่เรียบร้อย ผ่านทางวิดีโอพรีเซนต์ ความยาวประมาณ 15 นาที :

Playdate จะมีราคาอยู่ที่ 179 เหรียญฯ หรือประมาณ 5,500 บาท มาพร้อมแอปฯ ฟังวิทยุในชื่อ Poolsuite FM, ช่องเสียบปากกา, โปรแกรมแก้ไขตัวเกมในชื่อ Playdate Pulp และ 24 เกมที่จะมาให้เล่นฟรีในระลอกแรก โดยมี 2 เกมที่ยังอุบไว้เป็นความลับ เผยรายชื่อออกมาก่อน 22 เกมดังนี้
