Chairperson of the Civic Party Alan Leong said the #NationalSecurityLaw was “criminalizing thought”, after #HKPolice arrested 55 pro-democracy figures last week.
Leong said on Sunday that the mass arrests were predicated on motive not action, which went against Hong Kong’s common law tradition.

I studied in Sydney, Australia for 7 years from 1990. Below is received from a old Aussie friend by WhatsApp. I did some FCs, and seems this was written in May 2020. Not sure if he has any new/updated views.
*OPINION*
*Australian ABC Radio Peter Goers:
With China, many Aussies are absolute hypocrites.*
‘Revolution is just a T-shirt away,” sings Billy Bragg.
*The T-shirts are made in China like everything else. We wear and consume the proof of the success of the Chinese Revolution and they drink our wine, use our iron ore, eat our tucker and enrich our entire tourism and education sectors.*
It is almost impossible for almost anyone in the world to go a single day without buying or using something from China.
*China is the engine of the world and now rules the world economically. * We once ludicrously feared Reds under the beds. Now they’ve made the beds we lie in. One in five people in the world is Chinese.
*The People’s Republic of China (as even ardent conservatives attest) achieved the greatest social, political and economic miracle in world history by raising 1.5 billion people out of feudal poverty into a middle class in 50 years*
China has wisely followed the American and British examples of economic colonisation of the world but avoided the appalling errors of fighting useless and expensive wars. *China has not caused a war for hundreds of years.*
The economy of the world is predicated on China. *We ignore China’s communism when we make money from it, but because of the COVID-19 virus we are suddenly sabre-rattling and loathing China’s political system. Hypocrisy rules.*
Britain lied about COVID-19 mortality rates, and Trump’s US continues to exacerbate the virus. Has Australia demanded an inquiry into those countries? No. Japan has been building islands for decades with no international criticism. China builds islands and we send gunboats.
Australia rails against China’s human rights violations yet we continue to imprison refugees in concentration camps and continue to treat Aboriginal people appallingly. Australia is the nation which persecuted and demeaned the Chinese and others through the iniquitous White Australia policy.
Australia continues to treat the Chinese with racism and suspicion through an apparent genetic disposition to distrust them. We despair of Chinese surveillance of its citizens yet increase surveillance on our own. We despair of the Chinese persecution of minority races yet we are eternally trying to weaken our own Racial Discrimination Act.
Our Government is trying to suppress the press. We welcomed the English lords Vestey and McAlpine owning half of northern Australia, we allow American surveillance and military bases and yet we resent any Chinese investment in Australia.
China is a developing nation and is far from perfect – but we have much to learn from it. The cold war against China is damaging and dangerous. The British tried twice to poison and weaken the Chinese through opium addiction, invaded China and stole Hong Kong. There are Australians and Americans who’d gladly try to repeat that.
Sadly, Sinophobia is back officially and publicly as Australians are spitting on Chinese-Australians. Shame.
We are encouraged to criticise China but we rail against Chinese criticism of us. Isn’t Professor Kam Louie, of Hong Kong University, right when he says Australian leadership is “male, pale and stale”, and aren’t the Chinese right when they say Australia is America’s dog?
The Chinese came to Australia before the British, traded peacefully with Aboriginal people and had the good manners not to invade, claim the country and dispossess and massacre them.
The US and Britain are dying. China is flourishing. Napoleon was right when he said 200 years ago: “China is a sleeping giant. When she wakes, she will move the world.”
Australia must move with and not against China with respect and showing good example. Then we grow together in the great leap forward. Put that on a T-shirt made in China.
*Peter Goers can be heard weeknights and Sundays on ABC Radio Adelaide”*

Again, after 4 years, we revisit Dr Razak's clinic to get Ilon's circumcision done. Still not used to seeing our baby getting snipped, we try our best not to cry. Poor fella.
But be rest assured that he was ok. Dr Razak had used a local anaesthesia and the crying was only because in order for the procedure to be done, Ilon’s leg was strapped down so there’s less movement and that was uncomfortable for Ilon who normally prefers lying down on his tummy instead.
Half an hour later, there was some swelling but 3 hours later, it went down.
I just had to ensure I placed the cream (which is actually eye ointment) over his penis over the next couple of days. As predicated by the Dr, the wound healed beautifully. Praise God. No fever, no swelling. No pus. Dr Razak is one the best children surgeon in the country.
To those not familiar, “sunat Khitan” or circumcision is a recommended practice for male Muslims. Those days, the sunat happens when the boy is 6-9 years old and this is so the penis is easier to clean when a bit of the foreskin is removed.
Research shows it’s less traumatic when the circumcision is done from 0-3months old.
Celebrated the win (for all) at Minori Japanese Restaurant at The Royale Chulan Damansara Hotel. Thank you Jess for the birthday treat! The family and I so grateful for the kind gift. xoxo

Game Preview
Marcus Camby has two goals tonight: lead Massachusetts to its first Final Four; avoid becoming a poster child for one of Allen Iverson's I-didn't-think-little-guys-could-do-that dunks.
The two aims may be inherently linked when top-seeded Massachusetts faces second-seeded Georgetown in the 6 p.m. NCAA East Regional final at the Georgia Dome.
The Minutemen (34-1) rely on the defensive presence of Camby, their 6-foot-11 All-America center and shot-blocker. The Hoyas (29-7) depend on the offensive fireworks of Iverson, their 6-foot All-America guard and acrobat.
They won't be guarding one another, but rest assured, they'll meet. Or perhaps collide is a better word, because Iverson's game is predicated on his headlong drives to the basket, which is where Camby will be waiting.
''It doesn't seem like he's 6-foot tall the way he gets up in the air,'' Camby said of Iverson. ''I know he can jump over me and dunk it, and I don't want to be anybody's poster child, so I'm going to try and block everything.''
Camby, the leading candidate for national Player of the Year, averages 3.8 blocks per game and is the fourth player in NCAA history to reach 300 blocks in his first three seasons. He is the primary reason the Minutemen are third nationally in field goal percentage defense at 38.5.
But don't think for a minute that Iverson will be deterred. He averages 25.1 points and has scored 30 or more in five of Georgetown's last nine games.
''It doesn't matter who's in there,'' Iverson said. ''I'm going to the hole anyway. I'm not going to change, even if there's two or three Marcus Cambys in there.''
And what about Carmelo Travieso, the UMass guard with a reputation for shutting down big-time scorers?
''I don't think anybody can play me one-on-one without handchecking me,'' Iverson said. ''That's just the way I am. I'm a very confident person.''
Confident enough to have attempted a Georgetown-record 29 shots in Thursday's semifinal victory against Texas Tech. Confident enough to keep shooting and driving when only 10 went in. Good enough to finish with a game-high 32 points, many coming in clutch situations.
''If I was on a team that just needed me to distribute the ball, that's what I'd do,'' Iverson said. ''Coach (John Thompson) gave me a role, and I accepted it. This team needs me to score.
''Before I came here, Coach Thompson told me he'd put the ball in my hands and let me play my style of basketball. He's been true to his word.''
Iverson has the Hoyas in their first regional final since 1989 and on the brink of their first Final Four since 1985. Camby has the Minutemen in their second consecutive East final and one game away from their first Final Four.
But both face daunting challenges besides one another. Camby must confront Georgetown's rugged front line players - Othella Harrington, Jahidi White, Ya-Ya Dia and company. Iverson must duel UMass guards Travieso and Edgar Padilla, composed veterans who will make him pay for any missteps.
The Hoyas undoubtedly will try to muscle the 220-pound Camby, much the way Oklahoma State and Big Country Reeves did in last year's East final, won by the Cowboys. Camby had just six points and four rebounds before fouling out, while Reeves dominated with 24 points and 10 boards.
''That game showed me what I needed to do to improve,'' Camby said. ''I can't forget about it because everybody brings it up.''

Donyell Marshall and the Toronto Raptors went out of their way -- way out -- to beat the Philadelphia 76ers.
Marshall tied the NBA record with 12 3-pointers and the Raptors finished with a league-record 21 in their 128-110 victory over the 76ers on Sunday night.
Marshall was 12-for-19 from 3-point range and finished with a career-high 38 points to help the Raptors match the franchise record for points.
The Raptors, 21-for-34 from 3-point range, broke the previous NBA record of 19 3-pointers set by Atlanta in a victory in Dallas on Dec. 17, 1996.
"The basket just looked humongous out there today," Marshall said. "My teammates kept telling me to shoot it. They kept saying no matter what play we run we're going to look for you in the corner."
The 76ers repeatedly left Marshall open in the corner as Marshall tied the record set by Kobe Bryant for the Los Angeles Lakers against Seattle on Jan. 7, 2003. The 6-foot-9 power forward tried to surpass Bryant's record in the final 3 minutes, but one attempt rimmed in and out and he missed another
Marshall left to a standing ovation with 17.5 seconds left. His previous career high for points was 37 against Milwaukee on Feb. 23, 2000.
"You can't give a great shooter like that open looks like that. It's suicide," Philadelphia's Chris Webber said. "I told him in the first quarter if he gets those looks, he'd better go for the record and he did."
Marshall, who is from Pennsylvania, knew a lot of family members and friends were watching on television.
"To do it against a team you grew up watching, it felt good," Marshall said.
The two teams combined for an NBA record 31 3-pointers.
Marshall said he took advantage of Philadelphia's style of defense.
"They are predicated on stopping you in the paint and making you shoot outside jump shots," Marshall said. "When you have a coach that preaches that style they're going to keep doing that no matter what."
Toronto trailed by 10 in the first quarter, but the Raptors set a team record with 11 3-pointers in the first half. Marshall made a team-record six 3-pointers in the half, including his first five attempts.
"We knew all about the record at halftime. I was trying to do everything I could to keep him pumped up," Toronto's Jalen Rose said. "I told him what the record was. I told him who had the old record and who broke it before that. And I told him near the end of the game, don't get tired."
The Raptors went on a decisive 19-4 run in the third quarter as Rafer Alston and Jalen Rose had 3-pointers.
Marshall set the team record for 3-pointers in a game with an open shot from the corner with 4:12 left. He tied Bryant's mark with 2:52 left.
"Any time you see a power forward step out and take 19 threes, that's either grounds to get you out of the NBA fast or say that you're a 3-point specialist," Rose said.
Marshall is due to become an unrestricted free agent this summer
"I want to be his agent. From now on he's buying all of the dinners and all of the drinks. We got him paid today," Rose said.
Allen Iverson had 32 points for the 76ers.
Game notes
Rose had 25 points for Toronto, and Morris Petterson added 20. Peterson went 4-for-6 from 3-point range. ... The Raptors tied the franchise record of 128 points, last done March 10, 1996, against Dallas. ... Former boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter sat courtside.
