【原子習慣，讓我讀起來一直心跳加速】

最近很多人都在推「原子習慣」這本書，我便也買來拜讀了一下。跟習慣相關的書，我之前也拜讀了 The Power of Habit、Good Habits Bad Habits、Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything，我很好奇，是什麼魔力讓大家都在推這本書？

講到習慣科學，大多作者會引述的理論、研究都非常相似。但是原子習慣作者 James Clear 的敘事、寫作功力，讓這些理論變得更好咀嚼 (相較於The Power of Habit，差別更是明顯)。(跟他的名字裡的 clear 沒關係吧 XD)

James Clear 在自己的網站上，也寫了很多文章，主題包含了 deliberate practice (刻意練習)、goal setting (目標設立)、procrastination (延宕)、motivation (動機)、decision making (決策)、和 focus (專注力) 等等和 grit 一本書幾乎7成重疊的主題。

➠ 原子習慣，我讀起來心跳一直加速，因為邊讀讓我邊想跟英文學習者、自己的學生們吶喊：你們就是要這樣學英文啊！圍繞在單一主題，用不同媒介，反覆地學習。當學習到「內容夠熟悉時」，文法、單字、用法、句型一個個都會浮現出來。

在 Chapter 9 的一開始 James Clear 提到了「天賦迷思」、恆毅力的 Angela Duckworth 在書中的前兩個 chapters，也對於天賦迷思做了著墨。幾天前，買了「恆毅力英文：我的學習熱情提案」的學生寫信問我，「我已經購了課，請問我要先看看你推薦的 Talent is overrated 這本書嗎？」

我說不用，但我貼了一個 medium 的部落客寫的 Book summary 給他，讓他準備更窄的學習。

🙌 The 8 Stages of Change

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝟓 - 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞: 𝐈 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

When you’re clear about your desire, when you’re in a state of confidence (or fake confidence) and when you believe you deserve what you want; your actions carry a different level of magnitude.

You’ll show up in your life more powerfully. You’ll make powerful choices and take powerful actions.

Still, I can guarantee that you will feel resistance towards it. In his book “Do the Work”, Steven Pressfield simply put: “Rule of thumb: The more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel”

I don’t resist watching the entire Harry Potter series for the 6th time, but I indeed resisted writing this article. Anxiety, fear, procrastination, perfectionism, distractions... you name it. These are all resistance.

The big mistake is to think that you need to have motivation and a perfect plan before you start working. But most of the time it’s the other way around, the actions itself bring momentum, motivation, and clarity.

So stick your butt on the chair to write that article. Or get your butt out the door for that meeting. Show up. Get to work.
