Tech For Good Asia Webinar – Bridging the Digital Divide for the Elderly

Tech For Good Asia, along with Solis Strategy, co-organised a webinar to discuss the difficulties that the elderly encountered during the pandemic and how technology could help them overcome the barriers and stay connected.

Session 2 – How technology can support the elderly during the pandemic?

The social distancing measures and travel restrictions have disrupted everyone’s ordinary routine. It was particularly hard for the elderly to adapt to such drastic changes. In this session, we have invited speakers from AlipayHK, Facebook and the medical sector to share with us how new technology could improve the quality of life of the elderly during the pandemic.

In this part, Mr. Simon Leung (Head of Business Development, AlipayHK) and Ms. Maggie Tam (Public Policy Manager, Facebook) further discussed some examples on their platforms of how Seniors and others make use of their technology tools to stay healthy and provide psychological support during the pandemic and even lockdown periods.

「Tech For Good Asia」及與合作夥伴「Solis Strategy」合辦了網上研討會，這研討會透過錄影製作，並會剪輯成六個部份去了解去年疫情下長者面對的困難以及解決方法。

環節二：以科技支援長者在疫情中的生活

在疫情間香港實施出入境近乎封關、保持社交距離及相關限制措施等都突如其來的改變了大家的生活，當中長者更難適應這個急速的改變。我們在這部分邀請到AlipayHK、Facebook以及醫療界別的講者為大家講述如何以科技支援長者在疫情中的生活。

在這部分，AlipayHK電子支付平台總監梁溢堅先生和Facebook香港公共政策經理譚雋蘭女士繼續提出了例子，討論他們的平台和服務能如何協助長者們，即使在疫情下仍能保持身體及精神健康。

Le ministre adjoint des Affaires étrangères Harry Tseng a présidé hier une cérémonie de don d’équipements de protection individuelle à la ville française de #Colmar et à la Croix-Rouge française.

Ce don destiné au personnel soignant placé en première ligne face à la pandémie de #Covid19 est le fruit d’une coopération entre les secteurs public et privé des deux pays.

Le ministre adjoint Tseng a souligné l’importance de cette coopération public-privé dans la relation entre les deux pays, rappelant la récente ouverture de notre bureau de représentation à Aix-en-Provence ainsi que le soutien apporté par le gouvernement et le parlement français à la participation de #Taiwan à l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (#OMS), entre autres exemples.

Le maire de Taoyuan Cheng Wen-tsan et le directeur du Bureau Français de Taipei - 法國在台協會 Jean-François Casabonne-Masonnave étaient présents, alors que le maire de Colmar, Éric Straumann, un représentant de la Croix-Rouge française, Jean-Pierre Esterni, et notre représentant en #France François Wu le directeur de notre bureau en #Provence Chi-chih Shin ont pris part virtuellement à l’événement.

MOFA Deputy Minister Harry Ho-jen Tseng presided over a ceremony yesterday to mark the donation of #PPE to the historic French city of #Colmar and to the Croix-Rouge française (French Red Cross).

The donation, which will go to front-line workers to help them in the fight against the #COVID19 pandemic, was facilitated through cooperation between the public and private sector in both countries.

Deputy Minister Tseng affirmed this kind of public-private cooperation in the relationship between the two countries, pointing to the recent establishment of the Taiwan office in #AixEnProvence and the French government and parliament’s support for Taiwan’s participation in the #WorldHealthOrganization as other examples.

AIT處長酈英傑於4月15日在國立台灣大學就台灣在全球社會的參與發表演講並表示：「台灣作為民主的典範，慷慨的捐助者，以及世界上一股良善的力量，堪稱是我們及其他志同道合國家應對全球最嚴峻挑戰的模範夥伴…其中一個最佳的例子就是公共衛生領域…台灣的公私部門其實沒有義務向其他國家提供協助資源，但台灣卻積極挺身而出做出貢獻，因此，全球各國在 2009 年到 2016 年間，均曾熱烈歡迎台灣以觀察員身分出席世界衛生大會。將台灣拒於門外，不僅違反了各個組織的存續精神，也完全不符常理。以世界衛生組織 (WHO) 為例，在 WHO 的資金中，中國貢獻的比例 [少於1%]…然而中國卻能針對台灣在世界衛生大會的觀察員身分，任意動用否決權…美國將持續盡力協助台灣拓展世界舞台的空間，並與志同道合的國家合作，繼續遊說國際組織堅持健康、和平與經濟繁榮等價值，莫讓政治考量從中作梗。」處長演講全文請見：https://www.ait.org.tw/…/remarks-by-ait-director-christens…/

As a democratic role model, a generous donor and a force for good, Taiwan is an exemplary partner for us and for other likeminded countries in addressing the world’s most serious challenges…. One of the best examples of this is in the field of public health…Taiwan does not have to spend its government and private sector resources to help others. But it does so willingly and it has so much to contribute. And that is why the entire world – without exception – welcomed Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly as an observer from 2009-2016. Not only does it violate the spirit of these organizations to exclude Taiwan, it also defies common sense. China provides [less than 1%] of the WHO’s funding…yet it is able to exercise a veto over Taiwan’s observer status in the World Health Assembly…We in the United States will continue to do our part to expand Taiwan’s role on the world stage.
