When I tell education professionals that I run #playbased learning sessions and do Parent & Teacher workshops, some are quick to dismiss what we do— because it is “just music” or “Oh, just a playgroup!”
But it’s more than that.
As teachers and researchers, the work we do through music involves both theoretical and practical components.
Take this video, for example.
On the one side, we can discuss language acquisition through describing the elements of speech— from phonetics to morphology, to syntax and semantics, and so on.
However, from a practical component, we show how it is possible to support and scaffold the growing mechanisms of language in children— in ways that align with their developmental capacities.
In this throwback video, @asa_saoirse is excited to realise that she is being directly communicated with. Whether in speech or song, children are attuned to the elements of sound. This provides the foundation— not just for language acquisition, but also for the process of respectful and meaningful communication.
Enjoy this video of Asa’s foray into language. If you’re interested in the theory, send me a message. It is my goal to spread an understanding of age-appropriate instruction in the field among parents, caregivers and educational practitioners alike.

PS. I’ll be rolling out the Educator training and recruitment for @kindermusikhk through @baumhaushk in 2021. Also, if you are interested to have the official licensed Kindermusik program in your school, do let me know!
Stay connected, and together we can make an impact in #musicbased #creative learning in Hong Kong.

Dear Philhealth,
Do you think it’s fair to ask OFWs for contributions that they CANNOT use at all?
Do you really think all OFWs can afford this? If they’re getting 20k/month, after food, rent, taxes, bills, health insurance, and money to support their families in the Philippines, how much is left?!
Do you think it’s sustainable for a 0.5% increase per year?? Do you think employers are that generous that there’s a salary increase of 0.5% each year?? Is it fair that their salary increase is going to something they cannot use rather than to improve their lives?
Now to the more detailed questions, let’s take your 7,488/year contribution for example (remember this is on the conservative side, a lot of people will be paying 21,600/year), according to Philippine Statistics Authority, there are 2.3M OFWs. That amounts to 17.2 BILLION pesos per year. This is a HUGE amount of money, the least you can do is tell us how the money will be spent.
How did you magically come up with 3% (17.2B, is 1% enough? is 0.5% enough? Has this been responsibly budgeted with Filipino health in mind?
How much percent is going to cancer treatments?
Dialysis?
Diabetes treatment? Etc.
And don’t give us bullshit numbers. Give us details. For example, how many cancer patients will benefit from this and how much in pesos is Philhealth going to cover?
Yeah, you didn’t think that far ahead right? Because my fear is, this money will be mismanaged just like in the past. In 2016, Philhealth had a 250M deficit. In 2017, 4B deficit. (I can’t find the figures after that, I’m sure someone can).
Is the OFW contributions going to cover your outstanding debts from hospitals?
Are we being used to correct your past mistakes? Is that fair?
Is the money going to be spent on hotel stays just like Celestina Dela Serna did in 2018? She spent 1.3M in a year just by staying in a hotel, are we paying for that mistake?!
And how about the 16.58M missing from OFW contributions?
In Feb 2020, a whistleblower Ken Sarmiento said that 4 Philhealth officials did not remit 16.58M from OFW contributions and that an estimated 50-100M is missing from OFW contributions. A day after the news came out, Philhealth President Ricardo Morales said that only 1.2M was missing and that recruitment agencies were to blame, that this was reported to the NBI since 2015. (now bear with me) My question is, yes you investigated the 1.2M but isn’t anyone questioning, where is the 16M to 100M? I don’t believe that Ken Sarmiento is making this up. Are we going to believe one person who says yeah nah, it’s fine, it’s only 1.2M. Is this being thoroughly investigated? 16M is not a joke, it’s a huge amount of money and this is a serious allegation.
Will the same thing happen to our 17.2B OFW contributions? Will it disappear into thin air?
To all Filipinos and OFWs out there, we should fight this and demand ANSWERS. Philippines still has a BIG corruption problem and a broken health care system and I fear that only a small percentage of the OFW contributions will actually benefit Filipinos who need it. I’m a citizen here in New Zealand, and because of this news, sadly I will not be processing my dual citizenship. I’m fortunate because I have an escape but for OFWs working in HK, Singapore, UAE etc. who can’t get citizenship, we should all fight for them as well.
Please share this post, sign the petition, it already reached 300k. However, the more support the better. This is the only way I know how to support OFWs, if you have any other ideas, please comment below and with all of us fighting, we can actually change this. Thanks for reading.

How to go for SSEAYP?
As the program is fully sponsored by Japanese government, the recruitment processes for national participant youth are rather intense.
............................…….
First, let talk about how I knew the program.
I have been told about this program about 5 years ago from SSEAYP alumni who worked with me in Japan Expo.
So, it’s very important to surround yourself with a good friend who does not hesitate to recommend you good opportunities.
What if, however, you haven’t been in that community yet?
You can still seek for opportunities by yourself. For example, in this case, you can go to;
1. Department of Children and Youth Website http://dcy.go.th/webnew/main/index.php
2. The Thai Participant Youth Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TPY.sseayp/
The application is usually opened in the first quarter of the year.
Unfortunately, the application of this year has been closed already and now on the selection process.
In Thailand, there are 2 types of application;
1. Centralize (via mail or online application form)
2. Localize (at the provincial office)
…....................................
I applied to the centralize one with 2 rounds; English proficiency test and interview.
The English proficiency test has alternative choices and essay writing.
The test is not that difficult, but not easy as well.
You should prepare well for it.
Remember that, this round, you do not need to compete with others.
You compete with yourself: if your score is higher than 60%, you will automatically pass to the next round.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The interview round is more complicated because it is not only based on your competence, but also what the program committee needs in each year.
Having 2-time interview with the committee, I have found out that…
(In my case) The questions are based on my answers. They asked deeply on what I was doing, knowledge and skills I have on that field. They also asked me to perform cultural dance.
Thus, I think what can really prepare you to the interview are;
1. Know the program – The background information and preparation process in order to find the program’s needs.
2. Know yourself – What are your strengths and outstanding qualities that will benefit the programs. (Not only why do you want to join the program, but also how can you contribute back to the program and the society)
And, most importantly, “Never give up”
If you fail on the first time, do not afraid to try it again.
I also failed in the first time and got selected on the second try.
Some of the TPYs even tried more than that.
If you do not get selected, it does not mean that you are not good enough.
It might because they are looking for other qualities that year.
We can always learn and grow from our failures.
Then, one day our time will definitely come.

Watch Dogs: Legion
Watch Dogs: Legion is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective, and takes place within an open world setting based upon London, which can be explored either on foot - utilizing parkour moves - vehicles, or fast-travelling via the city's Underground stations. The game is composed of several missions, including those that progress the main story, liberation missions aimed at freeing the city's boroughs featured in the setting, recruitment missions for new playable characters, and various side-activities, with players able to freely pursue a mission or activity, or explore the city for secrets and collectibles. Each mission's objectives can be handled via one or several different approaches: an open-combat approach utilizing a variety of weapons; a stealth approach utilizing the environment to avoid detection and monitoring enemy patterns; or a hacking approach using any hackable object to subdue enemies with traps or distractions, while seeking out objectives via cameras and remotely accessing them. Combat includes a mixture of gun fights - involving lethal and non-lethal fire-arms - and hand-to-hand combat moves, with enemies making use of different methods depending on how the player acts against them in combat (i.e. a guard hit with a punch will use melee attacks). Players can be pursued by enemies when escaping, including hostile drones, but can lose them by utilizing hack-able environmental objects (i.e. vents) and avoiding line of sight with pursuers.
Unlike previous games in the series, Legion features the ability to use multiple characters during a playthrough, each of whom can be recruited from around the game's setting. While the player must choose a character to begin with after the story's prologue chapter, others may be recruited upon completing the initial story missions of the game from anywhere around the game's setting, which can also include those working for hostile factions. Those recruited become operatives that the player can freely switch to at any time, as well as customize with different clothing options, with each recruit-able character maintaining their own lifestyle and occupation when not active (i.e. spending time drinking at a pub). Each character that can be recruited have different traits and skills, based upon their background - a spy operative has access to a silenced pistol and can summon a special spy vehicle to travel around with, armed with rockets; a hooligan operative can summon in friends to help in a fist-fight; a builder operative can make use of large drones for heavy-lifting and a nail-gun for combat; while an "adrenaline junkie" operative can deal more damage, but risk the possibility of being knocked out/dying at any random moments. Operatives can gain experience when used by the player, which allows them to gain additional skills and abilities to improve them, with the player able to provide additional upgrades for all character by spending "tech points" - a collectible scattered around the city, which can be spent on weapon and gadget upgrades.
All potential recruits have an additional statistic, which details whether they can be recruited when approached - their thoughts on DedSec. Some recruits may not join if either they favour those that oppose them (such as a hostile faction), if the player has a character in their roster whom they hate or if DedSec did something to harm another NPC they have good relations with. If a recruit can be brought in, players will be required to complete a mission from them related to a problem they need resolving. An example of such a mission would be helping someone determine why they are being constantly spied on more frequently of late working as a vigilante in shutting down a criminal operation they seek to disrupt. Any character that can be recruited, can be killed during a playthrough by criminal gangs or law enforcement, and thus be permanently removed from the player's roster of playable characters, provided the player has the permadeath option enabled; if not, the character is merely arrested, and can be simply rescued by another operative. If the player loses all their characters from death or arrest, the game ends.
The online component of the game would be introduced through a free post-launch update in December 2020. Players can also join a team of up to four players in cooperative gameplay, sharing progression between single-player and multiplayer modes. They can also access Tactical Ops, which are co-operative missions designed for 4 players, or simply explore London together. The asymmetrical multiplayer mode Invasion would also return. The game also features a competitive multiplayer mode named "Spiderbot Arena" in which players assumes control of a gadget named spiderbot and compete against each other in free for all matches.
