Silfra is a unique phenomenon on this planet. A fissure is formed when the 2 continental plates - Eurasian and North American plates drift apart about 2cm every year. This rift of tectonic fissure is filled with freshwater that flows all the way from Langjökull Glacier, that's why water there is near freezing year round (2°C – 4°C). The visibility underwater is over 100 meters, which means it’s one of the clearest water on the planet!

The chance to snorkel or scuba dive between two tectonic plates is one that should not be missed. It's not gonna be comfortable, as the water temperature is low and drysuit isn't really warm enough (basically You won't feel your lips, hands and toes after a while), but it's quite an experience. Don't forget to take a few sips of the purest water on earth!
