The milky way season is almost starting over here in Malaysia, but from where I am living it is currently still under Movement Control Order (MCO) aka lockdown with some restricted travel laws in place.

Apart from the global pandemic situation, year 2020 was also a hectic year on a personal note as I take on a new role with a production studio assigned to me. Hence, I have only managed to make 1 trip to shoot the milky way on the entire year.

Year 2019 was the starting point for all of this. With a couple of photography enthusiasts friends, we head on to shoot the milky way. Since then I have been in awe with the galaxy, stars and solitude associated with shooting the milky way.

I hope that this year will be a better year, as I wish to explore further into milky way timelapse.

"On the eve of Kaamatan Festival, after a heavy downpour in the afternoon, sky starting to clear up in the evening. In the odd hr of late night, i made a last min decision to try my luck on milky way shoot in Kokol hill, packed my gears and asked my wife to accompany me along. This was my first time at this spot and to arrive at night under billions of stars was just something else. I spent a good couple of hours there with cool breeze blowing at 20-22C trying different compositions and just taking it all in ! definitely a worthy short trip with my love one"

Here is a new video of my BTS series, this time I'm showing how I shoot portraits under the stars! :

To be honest, this kind of portraits are the easiest to shoot! Well, that's because for all of them the settings are the same! Here are my most used settings for Star Portraits: Shutter speed - 30 sec, F/4.5, ISO-1600, WB-2700K! For this shot I am using 12mm focal length!
