義工奇遇記＃2－British Red Cross Clothing Shop

上回分享過我在NHS疫苗中心當義工的經歷
這次要說說我的另一個服務機構－British Red Cross

在英國的街道上走一趟
總不難發現各所Charity Shop的蹤影
除了香港人較熟悉的救世軍(The Salvation Army)
還有投入國際救援的Oxfam與British Red Cross
致力發展醫療科技的Cancer Research UK與British Heart Foundation
關注兒童權益／動物福利的The Children's Society與RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)等等

由於某些商店會將賣不掉的陳列品送過來
附近街坊亦踴躍捐贈不同物品
所以我們這所Clothing Shop也算是包羅萬有
透過出售二手衣物、書籍、玩具與家品來籌集善款

每星期我也會抽一天時間來這裡做義工
兩個月以來也學習了不少技能
例如在鋪面運作Cybertill處理帳目
在樓上倉庫把收集回來的Donation作篩選
處理好Gift Aider＊的捐贈
把破舊的衣物分成三類：Clothes, Household, Shoes/Bags/Belts
量度每袋Rag的重量再將其轉售給Ragman (收買佬)
剩下較簇新的衣物則以蒸汽將皺摺燙平
利用Tagging Gun在適當位置掛上標籤
然後跟據店鋪準則訂定價格
最後按種類、顏色與尺寸排列貨品
有時候還會幫忙佈置櫥窗
替Mannequin換裝
轉換一下玻璃櫃裡的布偶與擺設

雖然只是一間小小的店鋪
這裡的義工卻來自世界各地
牆上貼滿我們的照片
每人也擁有一個印上名字的專屬咖啡杯
大家當值時有說有笑
閒時分享自己生活上的種種趣事
令我每星期也期待回來跟大家相聚
這份義務工作擴闊了我的社交圈
也為生活帶來了新鮮感與滿足感
雖然未能夠賺取一分一毫
但有些得著是難以用金錢來衡量的

下次再談談我在另一處當義工的體驗
要是你剛剛到埗英國又未急於找工作
參與義工行列既可以把經驗寫進履歷
亦是融入當地、結交朋友的好開始呢

สุนัข 6 ตัว ถูกวางยาเสียชีวิตที่ Cyberport Park สุดสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา

ข่าวนี้ น่าตกใจทีเดียว
ใครพาน้องหมาออกมาเดินเล่นในที่สาธารณะช่วงนี้ แนะนำให้ระวังขั้นสุดค่ะ

สื่อ Coconuts Hong Kong รายงานข่าวว่า
ตั้งแต่วันหยุดสุดสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา
พบสุนัขเสียชีวิตแล้วอย่างน้อย 6 ตัว
ทั้งหมดมีประวัติไปที่ Cyberport Park ในวันหยุดสุดสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา
ซึ่งสวนสาธารณะแห่งนี้ อยู่ทางตะวันตกของฝั่งเกาะฮ่องกง
และได้ชื่อว่า dog-friendly
.
แม้ขณะนี้ จะยังพิสูจน์สาเหตุการตายไม่ได้ เพราะไม่พบส่วนผสมยาฆ่าแมลงที่มักใช้ในยาเบื่อ และยังระบุสารพิษไม่ได้ว่าเป็นชนิดใด
แต่สัตวแพทย์ที่พบเคสนี้ สันนิษฐานว่า อาจเกิดจาก #การกินสแปมที่มีพิษ เข้าไป

โดยโรงพยาบาลสัตว์ The Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH) ใน Wan Chai และ Ho Man Tin ให้ข้อมูลกับสื่อว่า
ได้รับเคสสุนัขถูกวางยา 7 ตัวในวันอาทิตย์และเช้าวันจันทร์
โดย 4 ตัวเสียชีวิต, 1 ตัวอาการหนักแต่ดีขึ้น, 2 ตัวได้รับสารพิษปริมาณไม่มาก จึงมีอาการเพียงเล็กน้อย
.
ทั้งนี้ #สุนัขทั้งหมด7ตัวไปที่CyberportParkในวันอาทิตย์
.
อาการต่างๆ ของสุนัขที่เข้ารับการรักษา อาทิ มีไข้สูง (40-43.5 องศาเซลเซียส) หายใจหอบ กรามแข็ง กล้ามเนื้อตาย และหัวใจวาย
.
โรงพยาบาลสัตว์อีกแห่งหนึ่ง คือ East Island 24-hour Animal Hospital ได้แจ้งทางเฟสบุคว่า
จนถึงเช้าวันจันทร์ ทาง รพ พบเคสสุนัขถูกวางยาแล้ว 3 ตัว
โดย 2 ตัวเสียชีวิต และอีก 1 ตัวอยู่ใน ICU

ข่าวนี้ สร้างความโกรธและตระหนกให้กับเจ้าของสุนัข โดยมีการแนะนำกันว่า ให้ใส่ตระกร้อครอบปากสุนัข เพื่อป้องกันการกินสิ่งแปลกปลอมเวลาพาไปที่สาธารณะ และหาวิธีทำให้สุนัขอาเจียนออกมาเมื่อพบว่ากินสิ่งแปลกปลอมเข้าไป

ทั้งนี้ องค์กรเพื่อป้องกันการทารุณสัตว์ (The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) ได้ออกมาประกาศมอบรางวัล HK$100,000 (ราว 400,000 บาท) ให้กับผู้ที่สามารถให้เบาะแสสำคัญของเหตุการณ์นี้

อนึ่ง การทารุณสัตว์ในฮ่องกง ตามกฎหมายถือเป็นความผิด มีโทษปรับ HK$200,000 (ราว 800,000 บาท) และ จำคุก 3 ปี

之前就有聽過SPCA，最近因為經紀人姊姊的關係才更了解。
SPCA（Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals）防止虐待動物協會
是一個保護動物和防止動物被虐待的組織，在世界很多地方都有。
最近他們要往台灣南部設立據點，正在募資！
也剛推出新一款募資禮物:回收牛仔布製的手提布袋。

Azmi and I recently took part in the Downbelow x Rip Curl Marine Conservation Program 2017: a joint event between Downbelow Marine & Wildlife Adventures and Rip Curl Malaysia with the objective to raise awareness, educate, and encourage action towards the global problem of marine debris and the importance of preserving our coral reefs.


This event was fully sponsored by the Downbelow & Rip Curl partnership and was held on the 19th of November, 2017 at Downbelow PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Sabah Borneo. We were amongst the 100 participants who took part in this marine conservation activity on-site and BOY! Did we have fun!

Anybody can be an ocean hero irrespective of whether you are a scuba diver, snorkeler or non-swimmer, all you need to take part is a desire to make a difference. Marine conservation activities are fun and a heroes way of life is rewarding !

ALL proceeds went to AWARE Project as well as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Kota Kinabalu (SPCAKK). I LOVE my furry animals, so this struck a chord with me and I will be working closer with SPCAKK to encourage more folks to choose to adopt than to buy a new pet from the store.
