Singapore might be a small country, lacking in natural resources. But we can still press on with tech and policy solutions for sustainable development.

Today, we unveiled the Singapore Green Plan 2030 (www.greenplan.gov.sg). It will build upon our sustainability efforts in decades past, and help us fulfil our commitments under the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

By 2030, Singapore will be greener, with more land set aside for nature parks. We will deploy more solar power, and tap more green energy. You will see more electric vehicles on the roads, and an expanded public transport network. We will recycle more. Schools will become carbon neutral, and students will learn how they can make a difference. We will help SMEs go green, and promote green R&D activities. We will do all we can to combat climate change.

We need to ensure a Singapore for our future generations. All of us have to work together, and make Singapore a bright green spark for the world. – LHL

This 3-wheel electric scooter runs on solar power and will easily get you out of traffic jams. (Follow Tech That Matters for more.)

This is the BICAR by Share your BICAR AG, a three-wheel electric scooter that runs on solar power and designed for sharing using a shared mobility program. It was developed by a research team at the Zurich University of Applied Science, led by Adrian Burri and Hans-Jörg Dennig. The fully electric-powered scooter goes up to 28mph (45 km/h).

The BICAR’s energy self-sufficiency is guaranteed with solar power and includes a back-up system with swappable batteries and newly-created Battery Swap Stations. Riders can use a mobile app to “geo-localize” a BICAR or a Battery Swap Station, make a reservation, lock/unlock the BICAR and use their mobile phone and software as an information board and navigation tool while driving, according to the team.

BICAR-sharing for short and medium distance traveling within a city is ideal for businesses that are in search of a sustainable, space-saving, and cost-efficient solution. Parking is super-easy and its size also makes for navigating traffic jams seamless and less stressful.
