VO2 Max is the measurement of the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense, or maximal exercise.

An Athlete's VO2 Max score is generally one of the best indicator for athlete's cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance.

Most elite athletes will have a higher number of VO2 Max, >60 ml/kg/min, but this number alone is not a guarantee of elite performance. High VO2 Max may indicate an athlete's potential for excellent aerobic endurance, but many other factors can determin the winner of a particular race.

Factors like: 1. Speed, 2. Psychological Preparation, 3. Lactate Threshold, 4. Rest and Recovery, 5. Nutrition, 5. Running economy, etc..

Gold standard measurement of VO2 Max is to go through Incremental Test (Bruce Protocol as an example), by using CPET that connected to face mask.
