凌某人英文小教室又來了。
某一天，日本小主婦又問了我一個問題：「請問On a stick是什麼意思？」
原來她前幾天看美劇，對照英文字幕時，看到裡面的一個人說了這句"Steroid on a stick"．她查了"Steroid"是類固醇的薏思，可是實在不懂"用竹籤串起來的類固醇"是什麼意思。
我先問：「他們在討論的應該是某個肌肉很大，或體能超強的人，對不對？」
小主婦說：「對對對，被形容的人是一個健身房教練。」
好，凌姊姊又來解答了：

很多片語衍生成俚語，通常跟當時的生活文化有關。
想想看我們平時出門逛街，拿著串子邊走邊吃，是不是覺得特別好吃？就算是很普通的東西例如熱狗，你把它串起來吃，感覺就是比媽媽在家煎的好吃；而且輕輕鬆鬆就能吃個過癮，一點都不麻煩。
"On a stick" 衍生出來的薏思就是這樣："Everything on a stick is better or more."
它變成一個誇飾法。任何東西只要串在串子上就是特別好、特別強或特別如何如何，而且是不費吹灰之力就達到這樣的成果。
以小主婦說的例子，他們在討論一個健身教練，全身都是肌肉，壯得像吃了兩桶類固醇一樣，所以他們形容這個健身教練像是"Steroid on a stick"，一個「超級筋肉人」。
註：運動員為了提高體能，增加肌肉，經常會服用禁藥，統稱為"Steroid"(類固醇)，這裡的「類固醇」只是借用它的意象，不見得人家真的有服用類固醇啦！

另一個例句，我在看的一本小說，男配角 Raphael 是個極端性感的男人，根據作者的描述：「每個女人看到他的第一眼只會想到性。」所以女主角形容他是：sex on a stick. 一部活動的性愛機器，一舉手一投足都性魅力爆表。
所以下次你若想形容什麼事物「輕輕鬆鬆就滿級分」，就可以稱它為"Something on a stick",

"stick with"可接的搭配有 "人" [10]，"機構" [11]，"formula" [12]，"plan" [13]，
