Faith Declaration: God’s Angels Guard Me in All My Ways
A wrong belief: “I wish Jesus would come down from Heaven and walk beside me to keep me safe. I feel so vulnerable down here on earth.”
“no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and cobra. You will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot.” (Psalms 91:10-13 WEB)
Today, the Lord brought me back to Psalm 91 to teach me about the part about angels and the assistance that they render to us.
We are not left defenseless here on earth. You are protected from enemies, accidents, and sicknesses “for He will put His angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways”.
Angels (plural; not just one angel) are actively guarding you in your daily walk. Look how attentive they are—they bear you up such that you will not even dash your feet against a stone.
All this fantastic protective service is happening in the realm that is invisible to us. Angels clearing the way for us, assisting in times of trouble, and ministering to us, according to God’s command.
We are precious children of God, and as royalty, we have the most powerful defenders with us every day. They are invisible to us, but they are still around. We walk by faith, not by sight—we must believe God’s word.
How do you tread on the lion and the cobra? This is impossible with God’s intervention because if you approach these animals in the wild, they will attack you.
It can only be because our guardian angels are restraining these beasts, preventing them from harming us.
Think about Daniel who was cast into the lion’s den. An angel of the Lord had shut the lions’ mouths and stood in between so that they would not harm Daniel, even though the powerful beasts were starving.
“Then Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever. My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, I have done no hurt. Then was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.” (Daniel 6:21-23 WEB)
Think about the apostle Paul who was bitten by the snake after arriving on the island of Malta, and yet, the poison did not even affect him. Paul simply shook the snake off into the fire, and this became a powerful testimony to the island natives that the Jesus that Paul serves is truly God. Could Paul’s guardian angels have somehow disabled the snake’s venom before it was allowed to bite him?
In both Daniel and Paul’s situations, they were allowed to experience the appearance of danger, but the supernatural protection became powerful testimonies to glorify God.
In Daniel’s case, King Darius witnessed God’s power and wrote a decree which glorified God. In Paul’s case, the natives living on Malta were healed and saved, and the name of Jesus was greatly magnified.
God allows the semblance of danger at times so that He can swoop in at the right time with an amazing deliverance, to bring forth salvations and the furtherance of the Gospel.
God’s angels are assigned to protect His people. One-third of all created angels joined Lucifer in rebelling against God many years ago (Revelation 12:3-4), but the great news is that there are still two-thirds of angels who are on God’s side. There are more holy angels with us than there are demons against us.
Every day, I confess with my family, “Your angels guard us in all our ways.” No matter where you are and what you are doing, be conscious that you are so protected and loved by God!
A new faith declaration: “God’s angels guard me in all my ways. I am so loved and protected. God is for me, so I will tread and trample over all obstacles and enemies.”
I want to end off by sharing a powerful testimony about angelic protection from one of our patrons on Patreon. This is what the photo collage below is about:
“I was in a big accident 2017: a semi truck hit us at fast speed (trucks here are undisciplined), and I was also driving fast but it was a resident area. The truck tumbled (but those guys were ok), our car spun, I blacked out for seconds and when I opened my eyes my car was on the sidewalk. I sustained no wounds at all. My daughter was even in the car. I got dizzy but really no injuries, even though my car was wrecked. I always tell people that God helped because I prayed under my breath when I saw the truck in my face, but now I realized God did send His angels when I blacked out for those seconds…something did happen. Truly Psalm 91 never changes. Indeed, God's angels who are faster than lightning adjusted my car and kept us safe.” - Jema
Keep studying God’s word and growing in your understanding of His ways. Our Patreon community is currently on a Bible study series called “My Faith Declarations” which looks at the Spirit-inspired utterances of the authors of the Psalms. They wrote about the trials and tribulations they experienced, so the book of Psalms is very relatable.
By turning their faith declarations into our own, we can learn how to overcome similar circumstances in life through faith in the Lord! Become a “God Every Morning” tier or above patron on Patreon to receive this reward, daily devotionals by email, and also all my eBooks.

Ideas
靈感
Tip No. 41: You know those quirky little things you do and think? Collect them in a file or on paper. Even if you’re a storyteller, you can use these as details to add depth and distinction to your jokes.
GARY'S FAVORITES
Gary(原作者)的最愛
Tip No. 45: Don’t Hoard Jokes
Don’t worry about “burning” material on a special or album. Hoarding jokes may signal to your brain that you’re out of ideas. “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” — Maya Angelou.
Gary’s thoughts on Tip No. 45: This attitude has been crucial to an unprecedented streak of creativity over the last two years. I’ve written four hours of material, which is almost as much as I wrote in my first 23 years of comedy. Most important has been my health, this idea may be second.
Tip No. 62: Look for inspiration everywhere. Paintings, music, poetry, rap, novels, nonfiction, short stories, theater, philosophy, etc. can all provide a spark for creativity. Cross-pollinate your work with broad influences and watch your creativity grow.
Tip No. 63: Write it all down while the coffee is still telling you you’re mighty. Reread after you’ve turned back into Dr. Banner (yes he’s a genius, but not as self-confident in that condition). That buzz is so valuable but needs editing.
GARY'S FAVORITES
Gary(原作者)的最愛
Tip No. 90: After a Good Set, Brainstorm
You just had a great set. Instead of celebrating, use that hour or so after when the synapses are still firing and your confidence is soaring to voice record or write down the ideas that pop up during that especially fertile creative time.
Gary’s thoughts on Tip No. 90: Huge help in making jokes that work longer and coming up with tangents and inspired ideas.
Tip No. 92: Notice where you do your best thinking. The shower? Running? Listening to music? Not listening to music? Driving? Walking? Make sure to put yourself in the places where you’re doing your best thinking as frequently as possible.
Tip No. 132: I think you can limit frustration and discouragement by writing just a page on a new premise before trying it out onstage. See if there’s anything there before you spend a day on a new joke. But if you’re truly excited by the new idea, keep going!
Tip No. 143: Listen to strangers’ conversations. (I tell myself it’s not impolite if they’re being super-loud.) I got “How Dottie is that?” when a supercilious woman named Jodi bragged “How Jodi is that?” “So Jodi,” her friend replied.
我有一次聽到一個名叫Jodi的膚淺女人吹噓"How Jodi is that?",她朋友回覆:"So Jodi",我因此想出了我的 “How Dottie is that?”
Tip No. 157: Need new joke ideas? Be sensitive. If you’re uncomfortable with that word, use “irritable” (or grow up). A lot of good comedy comes from reaction to injustice or discomfort large and small, which requires being hypersensitive to those feelings.
Tip No. 217: “All art is autobiographical. The pearl is the oyster’s autobiography.” — Federico Fellini. Purposefully mine your personal history for your act. Your life is a wellspring. Dig deep.
Federico Fellini
Tip No. 241: Many of your favorite writers include the same themes/subjects/objects/interests repeatedly in their work. Don’t be afraid to return again and again to your passions and obsessions to explore and expound.
Tip No. 285: Explore unusual angles in a joke. Example: Examine things from the POV of a child or an Expert. My man Jimmy P and I still laugh over his “Martian response to high school football practice: Why are the hard-heads (players) taking orders from the small soft-heads (coach)?”
Tip No. 297: One of the miracles of comedy is that you can get redemption for suffering, small and large, by making something funny with it. When you are ready, try to write something funny about your mistakes, setbacks, or even tragedies.
Tip No. 298: Skim your life for the unusual events and activities that you can’t believe you were a part of or that people can’t believe you were a part of. Then write about it! Back row No. 93 MULLET:
No. 93後衛MULLET: “瀏覽你一生經歷過的、你或別人不敢相信你參與其中的奇特事件和活動。然後把它寫下來吧!“
Tip No. 310: When it comes to solving the puzzles that are our jokes, draw on every area of knowledge, expertise, and talent. It’s so gratifying to use a fact, a lesson, or a memory from elementary school, high school, or elsewhere to fill in the joke.
Tip No. 311: Some of your best ideas will come to you in the shower. There’s science behind why it happens. Get a shower notepad if you have trouble remembering your ideas. Don’t listen to music. Listen to your thoughts. Ruminate on tonight’s set or a new joke.
Tip No. 313: Try teaching or informing the audience about something through some of your jokes. We love to learn while being entertained and vice versa. You have knowledge? Put it in your act! Just make sure it’s funny.
Tip No. 327: Going home for Thanksgiving? Take copious notes! Your family is unique. Being reminded of the dynamics and adding new memories will be great resources for your act. “Family isn’t a word. It’s a sentence.”
Tip No. 331: There are great stories from our lives that we’re not able to translate into stand-up. Don’t throw them out. Collect those stories in a file for radio and TV and other interview situations.
Tip No. 340: Volunteer! Especially if you don’t have a day job. There are so many opportunities to help. You will do good and have something new to write about. In NYC we have New York Cares. One year we decorated an elementary school for Halloween.
Tip No. 358: I have recently started audio recording all notes sessions (for projects), and next time I pitch jokes with a friend I will record that too. It’s very helpful. You will be surprised at what you forgot when you listen back. Ask permission first.
Tip No. 360: Spending holidays with kids? Pay attention to them. Listen to them. Take note and embrace their curiosity and enthusiasm within your writing. (Also avoid the “kids these days” writing. It’s lazy.) Merry Christmas from your second favorite long-haired Jew.

[Verse 1]
I guess this is a bitter end I didn't see coming
And I'm havin' a little bit of trouble accepting, too
I don't know what to say to you
There's nothing I can do to reset your point of view
We both said this was just physical
Well, one of us lied, can't set feelings aside, truth be told, yeah
You asked to see me once again at half past ten
I got nervous, so I got faded, made things complicated
[Pre-Chorus]
I'm sorry for the stupid shit I said
You ordered fun, I served you threads
It's probably good you left 'cause I finally admit
[Chorus 1]
I like you, I like you, I like you
Sorry, I never meant to
But who we kidding, it wasn't like I had a say
One look at you and I won't have it any other way
I want you, I want you, I want you
I want you to want me too
I know that I signed up for this casually
But I fell for your tricks, now I'm the casualty
[Hook 1]
Can we just reset, restart and then replay
Take me back to when all
You wanted was to love on me every day, yeah
I like you, I like you, I like you
Words I won't ever hear from you
Wishin' I could turn back the hands of time
To when I feel your hands on me and your lips on mine
[Verse 2]
I know that that was too much the last time you saw me
And I don't blame you for getting over everything so easy
But I just can't seem to figure you out you goddamn mystery
Good God, how you kiss me
Didn't think it'd be distress galore
Thought I just wanted you there
With your hands in my hair
But I craved more
And you just wanted rock 'n roll, no heart and soul
And I knew that from the beginning
So why don't I feel like I'm winning?
[Pre-Chorus 2]
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm the joke
The punchline that got too old
It's killing me to see you gone 'cause I never told you
[Verse 3]
Something 'bout you makes me difficult
But that makes us even 'cause you top of the charts
Egotistical, it's so typical
For me to fall for your kind
But, oh God, I wish you were mine
[Chorus 2]
I like you, I like you, I like you
Sorry, I never meant to
But who're we kidding, it wasn't like I had a say
One look at you and I won't have it any other way
I want you, I want you, I want you
I want you to want me too
Would it be a stretch if I asked you to try again?
I'll be patient, I swear I'll even count to ten
One, two, three, four, five
Fuck it
[Hook 2]
Can we just reset, restart and then replay (replay)
Take me back to when all
You wanted was to love on me every day, yeah
I like you, I like you, I like you
Words I won't ever hear from you (won't ever hear from you)
Wishin' I could turn back the hands of time
To when "I like you" was only just a secret
Crime
[Outro]

The Philadelphia 76ers never lost track of Vince Carter, but the Toronto Raptors did.
The 76ers held Carter scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter as they rallied for a 104-98 victory over the Raptors in their home opener.
Allen Iverson scored 24 points for Philadelphia, which defeated Toronto for the sixth straight time. But it was fellow guards Eric Snow and Aaron McKie and forward George Lynch who shut down the explosive Carter.
"We got it done and got stops when we needed to," Lynch said. "Everybody wants to see Vince do something spectacular. We're a defensive team and we don't want to see our teammates get embarrassed. We play well together, we help each other out and that's what it's going to take to win. We're not going to let somebody come in and have a big night against us. We just look out for one another."
Carter scored 25 points but just four in the final period, when the Raptors went scoreless for over five minutes. He did not score in the fourth quarter until making a tough drive with 1:45 left that cut the deficit to 93-89.
"Other people were scoring," Carter said. "You have to go the hot man. It's not all about me. It's a team thing."
Toronto never got any closer as Theo Ratliff and Iverson hit baskets and Philadelphia sank 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to improve to 2-0. The Sixers were 7-of-12 from the line through three quarters and 12-of-16 in the final period.
Carter made his first six shots but was just 3-of-13 thereafter. In the fourth quarter, he was 1-of-6 as the Raptors could not get him untracked, instead going inside to Antonio Davis, who scored nine of his 18 points in the fourth quarter.
"They were in the penalty so that's just smart basketball," Raptors coach Lenny Wilkens said. "They were in the foul trouble and the penalty and Antonio delivered for us. I wanted to go at them and have the other guys be patient."
"The biggest thing right now is trying to understand each other down the stretch," Carter said. "Sometimes, we're trying to think for the other person, and we have a lot of mixups. In due time it will get better."
In addition to slowing down Carter, Snow scored 16 points, McKie added 11 and Lynch grabbed nine rebounds.
Tyrone Hill had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Toni Kukoc scored 11 off the bench for Philadelphia. Mark Jackson had 16 points and 12 assists and Kevin Willis scored 12 points for Toronto.
"I've always said that it's going to be better for the team if we get five of six guys involved," Kukoc said. "We are playing good basketball right now. It's early, but if we continue to play like this, it's going to be good for us."
"It's been a total team effort," Iverson said. "A lot of people have said that we can't win a championship unless I do it by myself. They hear stuff like that and feed off it. No one feels better than me seeing those guys do what they do on the court."
The Raptors cut a six-point deficit to 75-73 entering the fourth quarter and a jump hook by Willis gave them their first lead since the second quarter at 81-79 with 9:20 to play.
But Toronto went scoreless for the next 5:06, missing eight straight shots. Iverson and Hill each had two baskets in a 9-0 spurt that gave Philadelphia an 88-81 lead with 4:35 remaining.
"We had some really good shots and we missed them," Wilkens said. "We just could not make a shot in that one stretch. They were good shots and the ball just didn't go down for us."
Davis made three jumpers around two free throws by Iverson to pull Toronto within 90-87 with 2:57 left. But McKie answered with a three-point play 50 seconds later before Carter finally scored.
The Sixers shot 48 percent (41-of-85) and limited Toronto to 45 percent (39-of-86). They blocked 10 shots, five by center Theo Ratliff.
Carter came out on fire, scoring 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting in the first quarter. His 3-pointer gave Toronto a 31-21 lead late in the period.
Trailing 43-36, the Sixers went on a 16-2 burst that featured points from six players, including three from Nazr Mohammed. The reserve center played only in garbage time in Tuesday's 101-72 win at New York.
Snow's basket made it 52-45 with 2:16 left and Philadelphia held a 59-53 advantage at halftime.
"It was hard to keep the focus," Iverson said. "We went down a little bit, then we brought ourselves back up and were able to win the game. That's the most important thing, regardless of how sloppy the game was."
