今天晚間疾管署公布了最新的確診案例，本校再補充說明一下之前尚未能公開說明的因應防疫措施：
本校今天(24日)接獲新竹市衛生局通知，有一位外籍的博士後研究人員確診感染新型冠狀病毒肺炎。
這位外籍的博後是在台北接觸到一位外籍的友人後染疫，他在不知友人染疫情況下，曾在16日（周一）及17日（周二）進到校內的實驗室。
在新竹市衛生局的疫調協助下，本校與確診案例有密切接觸的26名同學及教授都已依疫政單位規定返家進行居家隔離，期盼他們平安健康地度過檢疫期。
這26位同學及教授在本校修習及教授的課程共20門，修課人數共9百多人（ 3/26 #更新：因其中3門課未受影響，所以實際受影響的學生減少為約7百人），已一一用簡訊及電郵通知，請他們依疫政單位規定從即日起至3月31日自主健康管理，儘量避免出入公共場所，如必要出門時應戴口罩，每日早晚各量體溫一次、詳實記錄體溫及活動史。這20門課也從即日起至3月31日改為遠距上課。
事實上，這位博士後研究人員在得知友人確診後，即立刻預防性地進行自主健康管理，從18日（周三）起就不再到校，皆在校外的租屋處足不出戶，降低了校內可能受到影響的風險。
本校也在接獲通報有疑似染疫、還未確診前，即於19日（周四）關閉他曾出入的實驗室，請同實驗室人員進行預防性的自主管理，不進實驗室、也不去上課，儘量待在家中。相關實驗室及鄰近空間也已進行了全面消毒。

This evening, the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control released the latest confirmed cases. The university would like to provide further information regarding its epidemic prevention measures, which were not previously publicly explained.
Today (24th), the university received a message from the Public Health Bureau, Hsinchu City, stating that a foreign, post-doctorate researcher has been diagnosed with novel coronavirus.
The foreign researcher contracted the virus from a foreign friend in Taipei. Before learning of his friend's condition, he entered the university’s laboratory on the 16th (Monday) and the 17th (Tuesday).
With the epidemic survey assistance of the Public Health Bureau, Hsinchu City, the university has contacted the 26 students and professors, who had close contact with the patient, and instructed them to return home for home quarantine, as stipulated in epidemic prevention agency guidelines.
The 26 students and professors taught and studied in 20 courses. The total number of people attending these courses was over 900 people. Everyone has been notified through text and email individually. They have been told to limit their appearance in public spaces from now until March 31, as stipulated in epidemic prevention agency guidelines. If they must go out, they should wear masks. They should also measure their body temperature once in the morning and in the evening. They should record their body temperatures and daily activities. Starting from now until March 31, these 20 courses will be taught remotely.
In fact, after the post doctorate researcher learned of his friend’s diagnosis, he immediately conducted preventive self-health management. He stopped entering the campus starting from the 18th (Wednesday) and remained in his rented residence off-campus. This reduced the risks of a campus wide infection.
After learning of the possibility of the researcher being infected, but before he was diagnosed, the university already closed off the researcher’s laboratory on the 19th (Thursday). The other people working in the laboratory were asked to conduct self-management. They were asked to stay home and avoid entering the laboratory and going to class. The laboratory and surrounding areas have been fully sterilized.
