From 20 to 22 August, the 68th Japan Inter-College Championship was held at the Sports and Cultural Centre in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
We are proud to announce that Ryohei emerged 1st in the Men's Individual All-Around, despite a disappointing qualifying round where he finished 9th, after errors on Rings and High Bar. Some of you may remember that this was the competition that Ryohei placed 4th in last year (although he was the 2012 defending champion) after he suffered a mild heat disorder due to Japan's sweltering summer. After the qualifying round this year, it appeared that Ryohei would withdraw from the competition due to his poor physical condition. However, Ryohei decided to stay on. Instead, his Jundai teammate Nonomura Shogo (who qualified 1st) withdrew (I'm still not sure if this was due an injury or illness).
With the other gymnasts making crucial errors, Ryohei was able to remain focused and successfully performed his big Floor routine, posting a 15.950, ultimately emerging at the top and reclaiming his title ;)
Juntendo University was unfortunately unable to claim the team title for the 4th consecutive year, finishing in second with 442.300 vs Nippon Sports Science University's 444.400. I'm sure the boys will be back next year with renewed determination to reclaim the title!
Ryohei's Scores-
FX F:15.950 (1st) Q:15.300
PH F:14.900 Q:15.100
SR F:13.900 Q:13.950
VT F:14.700 Q:15.000
PB F:15.300 (2nd) Q:15.350
HB F:14.640 Q:12.400
凌平くん、本当におめでとうございます! \^^/ お疲れ様でした! いつも体に気をつけてね~~

BEN Simmons looked like his elite self, but it wasn’t enough to help his Philadelphia 76ers defeat one of the NBA’s most imposing duos, with the Australian’s team losing its fourth straight game.
The point guard finished with another double-double — 27 points and 10 assists, to go with five rebounds — and the 76ers looked close to stealing a win without star big-man, Joel Embiid.
However, as the likes of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins produced as expected, it was Jrue Holiday who stepped up, posting 34 points to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 131-124 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Simmons was given a rowdy reception from the New Orleans crowd, despite spending his one year of college in Louisiana. Still, boos echoed across Smoothie King Center, likely due to Simmons’ controversial comments regarding his time at LSU.
That reaction quickly subsided, and Simmons went on to have one of his most impressive individual performances of the season, ending the outing with a flurry of dunks.
Davis was bothered by a groin injury, but still managed 29 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Cousins chipped in with 23 points and nine assists.
Rajon Rondo finished with a season-high 18 assists, as the Pelicans improved to 14-13 on the season.
J.J. Redick posted a team-high 28 points, for the 76ers, who now sit on a 13-13 record after dropping their fourth straight game.
The game opened with Davis looking to make the most of Embiid’s absence, scoring the first seven points for the Pelicans.
Simmons and his 76ers had the answers to start the game, seemingly answering every basket in the first quarter, including an impressive sweeping hook shot off glass from the Melbourne-native.
In the second quarter, it was Cousins who stepped up, with the new Pelicans big-man managing 17 points by the half, as his team held a 66-55 advantage heading into the main break.
Down double digits for the first time, the 76ers opened the third period with a 16-4 run, regaining, then extending the lead, and putting themselves in position to potentially steal a win.
