Valve 旗下 Steam 平台開發了新功能，讓玩家可以直接在遊戲的 Steam 商品頁面直接要求加入 Beta 測試，讓開發者省去過往必須另外發送 Beta 序號的程序。 國外 Steam 第三方資料收集網站 SteamDB 發現，在《全軍破敵》系列最新作之一、卡牌遊戲《全軍破敵：英雄傳（Total War: Elysium）》的 PC Steam 版頁面上，出現了玩家可以要求加入測試的按鈕，方便玩家在開發者準備好後，可以開放參與者來測試。 SteamDB 發現， Steam 平台資料庫也在 app 訊息中加入了新的形式「beta」，似乎也是因應此功能所做的。

[News] Steam เพิ่มปุ่มขอการเข้าถึง Playtest ที่ช่วยให้การทดสอบ Closed Beta ของเกมต่างๆ เป็นไปได้อย่างสะดวกและราบรื่นขึ้น

Valve ได้เพิ่มฟีเจอร์ใหม่ให้กับร้านค้า Steam แล้ว นั่นคือ ปุ่ม Request Access สำหรับ Playtest หรือ ปุ่มสำหรับการร้องขอการเข้าร่วมการทดสอบ Closed Beta ของเกมต่างๆ

ซึ่งในตอนนี้ปุ่มดังกล่าวได้ใช้งานกับเกมอย่าง Total War: Elysium แล้ว ที่แม้ว่า Closed Beta ของเกมนี้จะเริ่มเมื่อเดือน พ.ค. ที่ผ่านมาก็ตาม แต่ผู้เล่นสามารถกดร้องขอการเข้าถึง Beta ของเกมผ่านทางปุ่มใหม่นี้ และจะได้รับการแจ้งเตือน เมื่อทางผู้พัฒนาพร้อมที่จะรับชาวเกมเข้าไปทดสอบ Beta มากขึ้น

ในตอนนี้การเข้าร่วม Closed Beta ของเกมต่างๆ บน Steam จะใช้วิธีการลงทะเบียนผ่านทางเว็บไซต์หลักของตัวเกม, Google Doc หรือติดต่อโดยตรงไปยังอีเมลของผู้พัฒนา เพื่อขอรับคีย์ Closed Beta จากทางผู้พัฒนา ซึ่งก็ถือว่าไม่คล่องตัวในหลายๆ แง่ และการมีปุ่มสำหรับการทำงานด้านนี้โดยเฉพาะให้กับผู้เล่น แม้ว่าอาจจะฟังดูเป็นฟีเจอร์เล็กๆ แต่ก็ถือว่าสร้างความสะดวกให้กับทั้งนักพัฒนาเกมและผู้เล่นไม่น้อยเลยทีเดียว และคาดว่าน่าจะมีการนำมาใช้งานกับเกมอื่นๆ มากขึ้นในอนาคต
