[150 days of final indulgence]
It's day 59. And I'm back to school but not UBC. Having taken the digital marketing course and the user experience design course at @brainstationyvr, I feel the need to up my design game, especially in designing user interface (UI). That's why I just started my UI course.
Interestingly the community manager there asked me what my goals are in this course (and they posted a story on their Instagram). I said I wanted to make my UX project more beautiful and make more connections. The goals are clear.
Then it got me thinking that I didn't really ask myself this kind of questions while I got into UBC.
I suppose, at the time, reasons of going to university included it was an investment, all my peers were doing it, having a safety net, pursuing a career that I thought I liked. They were sort of vague.
This makes having goals so important. The more I think about the reasons I had to get a degree, the more I wonder the true values of it. We can pretty much learn everything from the Internet so why even bother going to school?
In hindsight, it seems that a bigger reason for getting an education is really for the sake of learning itself, and learning how to learn more by yourself. Had I asked myself why I really wanted a bachelor degree and thinking through it, perhaps I would have used a slightly different tactic in choosing my courses.
And setting goals keep the tactic accountable. It helps you put things into perspective. It makes things more meaningful.
While I'm graduating UBC soon, lately I truly feel that one will never stop learning. We know that and we hear that all the time. But not until recently did I really internalize that wisdom. Maybe I should thank that to my philosophy major. Or maybe I'm just naturally a really curious person who wants to know it all.
Either way, I'm curious to see the changes that I will make and changes that I will have made when I finish my UI course and when I finally graduate from UBC, which, coincidentally, happen at the same time.

黃潔曾經在淡江大學建築系就讀、IIT建築系畢業後則前往哥倫比亜大學修習Master of sciense in AAD。

Here's my vlog from day 1 of Polyglot Conference 2019 held at Kyushu Sangyo University in Fukuoka, Japan. ?? italki CEO Kevin Chen spoke at the Opening Ceremony, and then we were treated to a Taiko performance by university students. Thereafter we had lunch, me stel flow polyglot, mingled and explored MUJI at Canal City in Hakata. The next vlog will have some speeches (and pics from all the cool famous polyglots I met! I was so starstruck).

Here's my last vlog from #PolyglotConference 2019 in Fukuoka, Japan. I gave my speech that day, but the full speech will be uploaded on the Polyglot Conference channel on YouTube later. Enjoy some snippets from the event! Btw, it seems lots of people are asking if they can join this event if they're not a polyglot - of course you can! The conference is open to anyone interested in languages. We're all still learning and it's a great way for us to get together and share our love of languages.

Hello friends! I've been asked this question a few times, so here's a video about it! In my case, I didn’t major in languages at university nor did I have time to do a language as an elective, although I would have loved to do French as a course at uni! I think studying languages or something like translation or interpretation is great if you’re planning a future with languages, but there are also ways to incorporate languages into your life and job going forward without having to study it at uni. I hope this video is useful and insightful for y'all!
Love you guys!
