Auditions for two upcoming vacancies took place this week. Do you know how auditions work to eventually become a Vienna Philharmonic member?
First, a candidate auditions for the Orchestra of the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera). If the candidate wins the audition, he/she enters into a one to two year probation period. After this challenging period, the jury decides whether the musician will become a permanent member of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. Finally, only after at least three years a musician may apply to become a full member of the private association of the Vienna Philharmonic.
