So many of you have messaged so here are some of our top tips for keeping your little ones safe during this influenza/coronavirus outbreak:
* Stay away from crowded/public spaces and limit exposure as much as you can.
(Having said that, it's not all doom and gloom, you can still have fun, play, go outside, enjoy social activities while being conscientious about choices!)
* Washing hands thoroughly with soap and water is still the best prevention over sanitizers
* Use parental/medical discretion when using masks especially for little ones 8 and under. N95 masks when used properly with a complete seal around keeps out germs and tiny particles but also restricts breathing to a certain extent which is why it is important to weigh the pros vs cons for your little one wearing a mask (immunocompromised, in a high-risk crowded area, etc).
They MUST be supervised and an exhale valve is highly recommended as it will help them breath easier.
Our favorites are the reusable ones from Vogmask (you can order directly from Vogmask Singapore) or the disposable ones from Watsons Singapore under the brand name AIR+ Singapore.
We use reusable for everyday, disposable for high-risk areas like hospital, airport, very crowded spaces, etc. Surgical masks would also work, scroll down for the proper way of wearing and disposing them.
* DO NOT use a mask on little ones that are already having a hard time breathing (wheezing, breathless, distress), vomiting, lethargic and be sure to regularly check on your little one at all times especially if they are quiet.
* Remove masks for naptime/sleep. We also dispose of the masks when we leave the hospital before we get into the car.
* Practice and teach little ones good hygiene habits like proper hand washing, not eating their boogers 😅, coughing/sneezing into their elbow instead of hands.
We have a book on germs called "Do Not Lick This Book!" from Me Books Nooks that Ella Grace likes and there are also quite a few informational kid-friendly videos too. The point isn't to scare them into it but to educate and empower them to take charge of their body as that's really the key!

HAZE CARE FOR LITTLE ONES:
🌱 Limit exposure as much as possible, stay indoors and insulated.
🌱 Invest in good air purifiers that really filter out the tiny particles - Amway Malaysia and Blueair Malaysia are the best.
🌱 Keep hydrated and eat a variety of fruits and veggies to help w antioxidants.
🌱 If your child is going stir-crazy or needs to move around, try to avoid public play places (petri dish for germs and w compromised immunity from haze) but plan small play dates inside instead. Sometimes just playing with someone else’s toys is super fun!
🌱 Let your child scoot, bike, climb, mini trampoline inside or check out tomorrow’s post for some indoor fun.
🌱 Take a shower and change as soon as you get home and wash hands and face frequently.
🌱 If you notice your child having a hard time breathing or wheezing, consult your pediatrician immediately as little ones can deteriorate quickly especially if in a higher risk category - respiratory diseases, immuno-compromised, etc.
🌱 Masks are not officially recommended for little ones under the age of 8 (please use your own discretion and child’s health history w pediatrician if deciding to use one) but if you decide to use one, make sure to check frequently and observe how child does w mask.
🌱 If using a mask, use a n95 mask w exhale valve and CHECK THE FIT. There should be no holes or leaks or it will defeat the purpose. Disposables last only 8 hours per mask and while I haven’t seen any available here, I was able to purchase a few at the Watson’s in Jewel Changi Singapore airport if you have a friend flying through.
We were also able to get a reusable Vogmask Singapore from M+ Pharmacy & Natural Remedies today which is also available in different sizes. Ella Grace wears a S in this picture.
