I have learnt to always give lots of space for the Holy Spirit to move as He prompts me.
For example, I may receive a word for a sermon that I’m preparing, and I’ll prepare the best I can, but on the day itself, I must still listen out for the Holy Spirit’s promptings.
He may stop me in the middle and ask me to release words of knowledge, to prophesy, or to operate in the gift of healings.
If I insist on doing what I originally planned, I would miss out the great power of God that would have been demonstrated.
Even when you study the Bible, it’s okay to follow Bible plans, but don’t be rigid about it.
If the Holy Spirit gives you the desire to move away from the schedule and read another book of the Bible instead, following that prompting—He wants to minister to you and give you fresh revelation for your life.
Reading the Bible in a dry, ritualistic manner is not as edifying and invigorating as when the Spirit teaches you the word.
“When much time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, because the Fast had now already gone by, Paul admonished them, and said to them, “Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.” But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship than to those things which were spoken by Paul.” (Acts 27:9-11 WEB)
Sometimes we are used to doing things a certain way based on what education, experience, or other so-called experts have told us.
Being stubbornly set in our ways causes us to miss Spirit-led opportunities and warnings.
When the Holy Spirit leads you to do something different from what you’re used to, just obey.
He’s guiding you based on God’s perfect knowledge and wisdom.
For every area in life, learn to tune out of your automatic mental habits and tune into the still small voice of the Holy Spirit.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.” (Romans 8:14 WEB)
You can’t rely on your talents and gifts, even if you’re the best among others at what you do.
Rely on the Holy Spirit who deposited those graces inside you in the first place—He knows how you can fulfill your greatest potential for God’s glory!
