Ford และ Volkswagen มีข้อตกลง ในการพัฒนารถกระบะปิกอัพขนาดกลาง เจนเนอเรชั่นใหม่ร่วมกัน โดยมี Ford เป็นผู้นำในการพัฒนาและผลิต ในฐานะที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญ ทั้งในด้านเทคโนโลยี และการตลาด ซึ่งโครงการลักษณะนี้ มักจะทำให้คนทั่วไปเข้าใจว่า รถยนต์ที่ถูกผลิตออกมา จะมีคุณสมบัติทางด้านเทคนิค ไม่แตกต่างกันมากนัก จากการใช้แพลตฟอร์ม และระบบขับเคลื่อนต่างๆร่วมกัน โดยส่วนใหญ่ จะแตกต่างกัน ก็เพียงรูปโฉมภายนอก และห้องโดยสารภายใน โดยอาจจะมีบางอุปกรณ์และฟีเจอร์ ที่เป็นของรุ่นตัวเองเท่านั้น
Ford เอง ก็ตระหนักถึงปัญหานี้ และพยายามสื่อสารกับกลุ่มเป้าหมาย ให้เข้าใจว่า รถกระบะของแต่ละค่าย จะมีความแตกต่างกันอย่างชัดเจน ซึ่งล่าสุด Andrew Birkic ประธานบริหารคนใหม่ของ Ford Australia ได้ออกมาให้สัมภาษณ์กับสื่อยานยนต์ Car Sales ว่า Ford Ranger เจนเนอเรชั่นใหม่ ที่กำลังจะเปิดตัวเป็นครั้งแรกในโลก ภายในปี 2021 ที่จะถึง จะมีจุดแข็งที่เหนือว่าพันธมิตร อย่าง Volkswagen Amarok โฉมใหม่ แม้ว่ารถยนต์ทั้งสองรุ่น จะถูกพัฒนาร่วมกันก็ตาม
