One of the most pressing environmental issues which is posing a serious threat to the world is global warming. This essay will look at some primary causes of this and suggest several possible solutions to this problem.
There are a number of reasons why the earth is getting warmer than ever before. The first reason is the levels of greenhouse gases released from power plants to the air are rising at alarming rates. This leads to an increasing concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, acting as a roof of a greenhouse, trapping heat and causing global warming. Another reason for rising global temperatures is deforestation. It is widely known that trees help absorb carbon dioxide in the air and thus reduce climate change. However, with large areas of forests being cut down for different purposes, carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases will continue to rise, contributing to global warming.
There are various measures that could be implemented to tackle the problem of global warming. First, it is necessary for the government to encourage power stations and plants to use more environmentally-friendly energy sources such as nuclear or renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. Second, stricter punishments should be imposed for illegal logging and forest clearance to make sure that forests are properly managed and protected. As individuals, we can help mitigate global warming by planting more trees in our gardens or taking part in environmental protection programmes such as community planting. By taking these actions, this problem would be properly tackled.
In conclusion, there are various factors leading to global warming and steps need to be taken to address this serious issue.

Increasing CO2 could take us back to scorching Paleogene period, say scientists
Heatwave temperatures similar to those that set the UK sizzling this summer could become normal by the end of the century if carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere continue to rise, say scientists.
A new study predicts that without action to curb greenhouse gas emissions the climate of Western Europe could revert back to what it was 50 million years ago.
At that time, during the Paleogene period, average annual land temperatures soared to between 23C and 29C.
Weather conditions were hot, steamy and tropical.
Professor Rich Pancost, one of the researchers from the University of Bristol, said: “Our work adds to the evidence for a very hot climate under potential end-of-century carbon dioxide levels.
Rich Pancost
“Importantly, we also study how the Earth system responded to that warmth. For example, this and other hot time periods were associated with evidence for arid conditions and extreme rainfall events.”
The scientists studied fossil microbes in ancient peat to estimate land temperature 50 million years ago.
They found that annual land temperatures in Western Europe, as well as New Zealand, were significantly higher than previously thought.
Study leader Dr. David Naafs, from the University of Bristol’s School of Earth Sciences, said: “We know that the early Paleogene was characterized by a greenhouse climate with elevated carbon dioxide levels.
“Most of the existing estimates of temperatures from this period are from the ocean, not the land. What this study attempts to answer is exactly how warm it got on land during this period.”
The findings appear in the journal Nature Geoscience.
Next the researchers want to investigate the effect of Paleogene heat in the tropics.
Dr. Naafs said: “Did the tropics, for example, become ecological dead zones because temperatures in excess of 40C were too high for most forms of life to survive?
“Some climate models suggest this, but we currently lack critical data.”

The Jokulsarlon glacier lake in Iceland🇮🇸 is the most magical place on earth💙
.
Like the short history of Iceland, the creation of the glacier lake was rather recent. A lagoon appeared around 1934-35 when the Breidamerkujokull glacier started retreating. As the glacier continued to melt rapidly since 1970s, the lagoon became the lake we see nowadays with floating icebergs of varying size and shapes.
.
From time to time, icebergs flowed through the shortest river in Iceland, into the Atlantic Ocean, washed ashore the black sand beach, and shined like diamonds.
.
The view was breathtaking. It was more beautiful than my sweetest dreams, my wildest imagination and anything I had ever seen. Seeing the tips of the icebergs and knowing that there was 9/10 of the mass underwater was incredible. Just being here felt like my soul was cleansed by the serenity of Mother Nature.
.
The lake had continued to grow since 1970s due to the melting glacier, and it is now Iceland's deepest lake. When the extent of greenhouse effect on our Earth is laying before our eyes, it is heartbreaking. May this be a reminder that we should all do what we can and more for the environment, for our Earth! ♻️🌍

[WHERE ARE THE ASIAN BORDERS? (PART 3: NORTH AMERICA)]
Asia is the largest of all continents, covering an area of 44,579,000 square kilometres, that's 30% of the Earth's total land area.
It has given rise to many of the world's first civilizations, and has long been home to the majority of the human population.
But have you ever wondered what actually counts as Asia? Where exactly are the borders?
Do they sit nicely in between countries, or can a country be divided?
This video is part three of a three part series. We cover the specific Asian borders between Northeast Asia and North America.
In particular: Chukotka, Siberia, Alaska, Wrangel Island, Bering Strait, Bering Land Bridge, Diomede Islands, Russian Empire, the US purchase of Alaska from Russia, state boundaries or continental boundaries affecting the indigenous inuit people, St.Lawrence Island, St. Matthew Island, Pribilof Islands, Kamchatka, Aleutian Islands, Amatignak Island, Semisopchnoi Island, Commander Islands, state 180th meridian line (antimeridian), the International Date Line, the greenhouse effect and global warming.
