Things to do in Kyushu, the southern-most of Japan's main island, full of volcanic activity, hot springs and interesting places to visit - and cute fruit bus stops!

I really enjoyed visiting Kyushu when I stayed in Fukuoka and went on day trips around the island. But there was lots I missed! With the new branch of the shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagasaki opening late 2022, it's a great time to go. This video's a round-up of ideas for your second/third/fourth Japan trip, including Nagasaki, Shimabara (City of Swimming Carp), Huis Ten Bosch, Kumamoto (for Kumamon hunting!), Yutoku Inari Shrine, Yufuin near Beppu, Mount Aso, the Unzen Hells and Mount Unzen, another active volcano in Japan.

Trying savoury crepes in Harajuku at Marion Crepes on Takeshita Street.

Crepes are the original snack of Harajuku. They're thin pancakes, rolled into a cone and there are hundreds of options for fillings: cream, custard, ice cream, fruit, matcha, even cake and cheesecake! To me, Japanese crepes should be sweet. However today I decided to try a savoury crepe, to see what it's like! There are lots of crepe stands on Takeshita Street, the main shopping street in Harajuku. Usually I go to Santa Monica crepes, but this time I tried Marion Crepes, which was the original, first crepe stand in the area.

Ueno is an area in north-west central Tokyo, near Asakusa. It's a little older and less shiny and modern than some other areas. It's famous for the park, with Shinobazu Pond, Ueno Zoo and several museums. It's also known for pandas, because of the giant pandas at the zoo. Ameyokocho is a popular street by the train tracks, with market stalls selling all sorts of household goods, fresh fish, fruit and street food - a good place to get Japanese food snacks!
