"Chilling effect" in Mandarin originates from The Book of Han: (Volume 67) Biographies of Artisan Prohibition, which describes the inaction of people not revealing evil conduct of those with power, being like cicadas in the winter not making any sound.
The chilling effect threatens those who try to expose evil acts of those with power. Using violent or nonviolent consequences to control speech and discourage civilians to have thoughts about issues that matter, thus like cicadas that are quiet in chilling weather to further control society.
This is the murderer of social speeches and freedom of thought, and it intends to guide us into false peace.

形容「聽聞惡行卻不揭發，如同天寒不鳴的蟬一般」
寒蟬效應試圖以威嚇的方式警告那些希望揭發惡行的人們，利用武力或非武力的警告控制言論，使公民不敢對於議題有任何思想，如同天寒不出聲的蟬一樣，進而控制社會。
這是社會言論與思想的殺人犯，而他正企圖引導我們走向虛假的和平。
