月記 2021年3月『ウォーターマンと大阪大空襲』(English Version is Below.)
私は文具が好きで、新しいノートを買うと真っ白な紙面を見たり触ったりしてしばらく楽しみ、それからお気に入りの筆記具で字を書くのがたまらない。祖母も好きだったようで、いつかウォーターマンの万年筆を買いなさいと、生前よく言っていた。そして、その後に失くした万年筆の話が続く。
まだ祖母が三十代だった頃、お気に入りのウォーターマンの万年筆で日記を毎日つけていたらしい。3月のある日、いつものように書き、ノートを閉じてペンをその上にポンと置いて出かけた。大阪の家から兵庫の友人の家に泊まりに行ったらしい。その夜、大阪は激しい空襲にあった。翌日帰ると家も何もかも焼けてしまっていたという。
成人してからこの話を思い出し、調べてみると3月13日のことだと知った。(大阪大空襲は3月、6月、8月と複数回にわたって行われたが、3月と祖母が言っていたのでこの日だろう。)今から76年前の今日のことである。この空襲は悲惨なものであったはずだが、祖母は焼け野原で見たであろうものを少しも話さなかった。そのため私が想像する映像はノートとその上に置いてある万年筆に集中している。しかし3月が来る度に、あるいは私の大好きな万年筆のことを考える度に大阪大空襲が、そして戦争のことが頭に浮かぶ。
この話は風船の紐のように、私と遠い過去とをつなげている。空襲によって亡くなった人たちと彼らのあったはずの未来、そして語られずに消えていった無数の思い出や事柄を思う。私は断固として戦争に反対する。

Monthly Diary: March, 2021
I love stationery. One of the best moments is to write with my favorite pen on a new notebook after enjoying just looking at and touching white blank paper.
My late grandmother was also a stationery lover . She used to say to me, "You should get WATERMAN's fountain pen someday" and also told me again and again the following story: When she was in her thirties, she kept a diary with her favorite WATERMAN's fountain pen. One day in March, she finished writing and went out to visit her friend in Hyogo. On that night, the bombing of Osaka happened. Next day she went back to her house in Osaka and found everything was burned and lost.
76 years ago today, 13th March.
She never told me what she had seen there at that time, so that only her pen on the diary could be visualized in my head. However, in every March and every time I think of WATERMAN's fountain pens, it reminds me of my grandmother's story and the War.
That story is like a string of balloon which connects me to the distant past. It makes me think about those who were killed, and their futures, otherwise, they could have lived and uncountable memories and numerous stories that had never been told.
I am strongly against war.
