I visited South Africa for work in the last one week. Visited a lion park on Saturday morning before I got on the flight. The animal specialist said that one lion is selected by his peer to be the leader. The selection process is nothing to do with age, size, look, or event fighting - is purely about confidence. The lion with most confidence became the leader. You fake it until you make it.
