2019年10月8日清晨，美国加州乔齐拉市的一条火爆新闻，引起了全美国人民的关注！原来40年前的儿童绑架案的主谋，弗雷德里克·伍兹，又一次提出假释的要求。这是他第17次假释请求，在40多年的牢狱生活中，他曾先后16次提出假释的请求，结果都被一一驳回。而这是他第17次提出假释申请，但依旧没能如他所愿，假释官再一次坚决的驳回了他的申请，而假释官的这一决定，却赢得了全加州人民的赞扬。所有人都希望他的余生必须要在监狱中度过。
这到底是一起什么样的绑架案，在40多年后的今天，人们还如此痛恨这位主谋呢？其实答案只有一个，因为当年伍兹策划了一起，针对26名小孩的，绑架活埋案。但是请大家放心，这并不是一个悲伤的故事，虽然伍兹经过长达18个月的精心预谋后，成功绑架了这群小孩，但是整件绑架案，就像是有神的保护一样，这群小孩却凭着智慧，勇气，当然还有一系列神奇的巧合，最后居然全部都安全逃脱了魔掌。
好，废话不多说，让我们回到上世纪70年代。
故事开始
弗雷德里克·伍兹和两个小弟：理查德 还有 詹姆士·斯科恩菲尔德 ， 住在加州利弗莫尔的一个采石场附近，一开始，伍兹只是因为手上缺钱，想要找一个捞钱的法子，就跟身边的两个小弟商量，有什么办法可以快速的捞到钱。而一部影片给了他们启发：伍兹想要模仿1971年 伊斯特伍德 主演的警匪片《警探哈里》里面的剧情，来一次绑架，
而且伍兹还想，既然要干，那干脆就干一次大的，所以他们的计划是劫持一整辆校车！因为一辆校车少数也有几十个孩子，而家长为了家里的宝贝，肯定会不惜重金！一次肯定就能赚个够，但是没有想到，就是伍兹的这个想法，反而后来给孩子们的自救，提供了关键的帮助。
之后三个人就开始准备详细的工具，侦查路线，做好各种各样的后备计划，在整整忙活了18个月后，他们终于制定出了一个缜密的绑票计划——他们决定从乔齐拉市郊外一条人迹罕至的公路上绑一辆校车。
1976年7月15日，一辆校车刚刚放学正在返回的路上，车上一共26名学生，路线，人数，校车，早就在伍兹三人的计划之中。
当时，校车上载着乔齐拉市一所小学的学生，年龄从5岁到14岁不等，他们都是参加暑假游泳班培训的学生，这趟校车的司机，是学校的老司机，已经在学校工作了很多年，名字叫：弗兰克·爱德华·雷（Frank Edward Ray）。
爱德华是一个老好人，和孩子们都很熟悉，虽然孩子们的年纪是5到14岁，但是他们都和爱德华关系很好，爱德华也非常爱这一群孩子们。可他并不清楚，几公里外人烟稀少的一段公路上，三个全副武装的绑匪，正在校车的必经之路上等着他们。
下午4点，校车转过了一个路口之后，只见两辆白色的货车横在路中间，拦住了去路，眼前的场景让爱德华本能地猛踩刹车，只好把校车停了下来。还没等爱德华和孩子们反应过来，只见两辆货车上分别走下来三个蒙面的人，他们头套着丝袜，看不清面貌。手里拿着手枪，直勾勾的向校车走上来。一个绑匪从前面上车，举起手里的手枪对准爱德华，示意让爱德华打开后面的车门。
