A: It is not a true democracy if you got it by violence.
B: You should aware that, this level of force from police and violence from protestors is completely not equivalent. If you focus on the violent act of protestors but ignore the political and institutional violence from the government, you're just endorsing the greater violence. besides, which country doesn't take aggressive approach when their people fight for democracy? Have you heard about our neighbor - France?
A: People should have a discussion, right? Can't it be solved peacefully?
B: In fact, our chief executive did tired to discuss. She organized a conference said she is listening to people's voices. But end up only about a hundred-ish people were selected to join. The opinion they can express there was even lesser. But after that "discussion", do you know what she did to respond? Send more forces for repression. what kind of peace talk was that?
B: Moreover, after the handover in 1997, Hongkongers have been "discussing " for 22 years, it just keeps getting worse. Imagine we were discussing that when you were 2, and now you're 24 and graduated from college for a few years. NOTHING has improved at all, my dear. We are talking about freedom, not a relationship. It doesn't have to be life long.
B: let me show you this. This is called "cage homes". More than a hundred thousand people in Hong Kong have to call this dog cage "home". Here is public housing in Hong Kong. Lots of young people submit their application once they're 18, 10 years later they might still can't get their own place. But those new immigrants from China all on the fast lane to get their place. Could you imagine one of your life goals is to get to live in a council house? One more, this is the night view of Hong Kong, beautiful right? But each shining lamp is mean a brunch of poor workers still working overtime in the office with no compensation. Don't you believe if I send an email to Hong Kong right now, which is 01:00 am over there now, I would still get someone to reply to me? And yeah, I bet that poor guy is also still waiting for his public housing flat. Not to mention issues on the environment, education, public transport, and health services... Hong Kong is just seeming beautiful, there are so many deeper problems beneath the iceberg causing people's anger. They have endured that for 22 years. Now is just all exploded and be counted at once.
