新手媽媽:「奶奶叫我坐月時不要洗頭,如果入了風年紀大時會頭痛,是真的嗎?」
CheckCheckCin:古時浴室設備簡陋,想要一盆熱水也不是易事,所以才會有坐月子不能洗頭、洗澡的傳統。現代浴室熱水供應充足,而且又有浴室寶/暖爐、風筒等設備,只要洗澡洗頭時關好窗戶,洗澡後立即擦乾身體及吹乾頭髮,避免因寒濕滯留皮膚而著涼就可以了。想再保險一點可以用薑水洗澡,或者在洗澡後用一盆濃縮薑水從頭倒下淋遍全身,因為薑有驅寒保暖、祛風袪濕的作用。
濃縮薑水
材料:薑連皮約20片
做法:薑洗淨,連皮切薄片。鍋內加入約1000毫升水,煮30分鐘即可。

CheckCheckCin: In the olden days, bathrooms were not well-equipped. In fact, even getting a pail of warm water was a challenge. This is why the older generation would discourage us from bathing and washing our hair.
Bathrooms in the contemporary era, on the other hand, are equipped with water heater, bathroom heater, and dryer. As long as we close all the windows and doors and dry our body and hair thoroughly after shower, we can prevent dampness from invading the body through our skin.
We can even use ginger water to bathe or wet our body with concentrated ginger water from head to toe. Ginger water can keep us warm and dispel wind and dampness from the body.
Concentrated ginger water
Ingredient: 20 slices of raw ginger (unpeeled)
Preparation: Rinse the ginger, cut it into slices with skin on. Add ginger slices and about 1000 ml of water in a pot and cook for 30 minutes.

虛寒體質骨痛難眠?
近來《延禧攻略》全城大熱,看到得大家咬牙切齒,劇中的情節也成為大家茶餘飯後的話題。柔弱的皇后為了誕下嫡系龍嗣,冒著虛寒體質,每晚骨痛難眠,也要努力備孕。劇中皇后請純妃為自己每天針灸調理,最終才可冒險成孕。究竟生產後是否會令身體變得虛寒?體質虛寒的人又是否會如劇情般周身骨痛?
中醫有說,產後婦女多虛多寒多瘀,因此需要坐月多加調理,才可令身體更快回復,舊時保暖沒有現在方便,「避風如避箭」,所以才有坐月時不可洗澡的說法,以免受風寒,所以說生產後的防寒保暖調理尤其重要。中醫理論中,如皇后生產後體弱的人,寒濕份外容易乘虛侵襲身體,令氣血及經絡不通,出現背痛及頸肩的痛症;另外,生產後體質多瘀,假如氣血瘀滯,睡覺時更會出現刺骨的背痛,氣息也份外柔弱。其實對於體質易有虛寒,甚至因此而有背痛的人來說,未必一定要如皇后般天天針灸,可以選擇吃有袪風散寒及養血的食物及泡腳也同樣有效!
冷冰冰美人茶療:
材料:生薑20克、紅茶5克、紅糖20克
做法:薑切片,連其他材料一同放入保溫瓶中,加入500毫升焗10分鐘即可。
功效:暖體升溫,改善血液循環,更有排水的功效。
不再打入冷宮泡腳方:
材料:艾葉1小把
做法:把艾葉撕碎後,放入泡腳盤入,注入少量熱開水讓艾葉泡開,再注入溫水至水溫約40度泡10-15分鐘即可。
功效:改善血液循環,驅寒袪濕。
Losing sleep from bone pain due to asthenic cold body type?
Recently the hit TV show “Story of Yan Xi Palace” has been the discussion topic at dinners and social gatherings. In order to become pregnant, the queen in the show tolerates lack of sleep and bone pain due to asthenic cold body type. She get acupuncture daily and finally conceives successfully. Does the body become asthenic cold post pregnancy? And does bone pain comes with it as the show depicted?
Chinese medicine theory says that ladies post pregnancy do become asthenic, cold and have blood stasis. This is why the recovery process during confinement month is so important. In the old days, staying warm is not as easy, hence the tradition of not bathing in the confinement month to avoid wind pathogen. It is important to stay warm post pregnancy. For those, like the queen, who are very weak after giving birth, they are prone to cold and dampness attack leading to stagnant qi and blood. This leads to back, neck and shoulder pain. Post pregnancy also can create blood stasis and the back pain intensifies during sleep. Those with this condition do not necessarily have to do daily acupuncture like the queen, they can also choose foods that can dispel wind and cold or soaking their feet can help too!
Healing Tea for the ice beauty:
Ingredients: 20g raw ginger, 5g black tea, 20g brown sugar
Preparation: slice ginger, and place with all other ingredients into thermos. Add in 500 of hot water and steep for 10 minutes.
Effects: Warm the body, improve blood circulation and discharge water
Warming feet soak:
Ingredients: small bunch of mugwort leaf
Preparation: tear leaf into small pieces and place into basin. Add in small amount of hot water to let leaf open up. Then add in room temperature until water is at about 40 degrees. Soak for 10-15 minutes.
Effects: Improve blood circulation, dispel cold and dampness.

坐月唔可以洗頭?
中醫認為產後的婦女多虛多瘀,容易受風邪入侵,所以碰冰水、冷風會易受寒著涼,影響身體復元。試想想,古時候設施不足,洗澡時並沒有足夠的熱水供應,而且浴室亦有可能在室外,自然易感風寒,所以就有生產後坐月期間不能洗頭、洗澡的傳統。現今科技發達,有暖氣亦有風筒,只要乖乖吹乾頭髮擦乾身體才步出浴室是可以的,也不一定要以薑水洗頭。
如晚間照顧嬰兒時不小心吹風、著涼的話,除了以薑水浸浴,洗頭時也可以以生薑煮過約30分鐘的熱水洗頭,預防或舒緩頭痛。謹記洗頭後立刻以風筒吹乾頭髮,注意不要著涼就好!
▶︎▶︎浸浴、洗頭、泡腳用的驅寒薑水:
➽材料:生薑或老薑連皮10-15片
做法:材料洗淨,用600毫升水,武火煮滾後轉文火煮30分鐘。洗澡、洗頭、浸浴、浸腳時可加入適量暖水。
➽功效:驅寒保暖。舒緩吹風後的頭痛、產後身體酸軟疼痛或運動後的肌肉不舒。
Chinese medicine believes that postpartum women are prone to asthenia and stasis and their bodies can easily be affected by pathogenic wind. Therefore, touching cold water or exposure to cold air can cause the body to become cold and affect overall recovery. However, its important to consider in the old days, bathroom facilities are vastly different from what we have now- there was not enough hot water supply for baths, the bathroom may have been outdoors, etc. All of which does make it easier to catch cold and become sick so it was recommended that postpartum women do not wash their hair or take baths during the confinement recovery period. The modern facilities are well equipped, and there’s access to heaters and hair dryers. As long as you ensure your body and hair fully dry before stepping out of the bathroom, you do not even need to use ginger water to wash your hair.
If you do get sick or weakened after exposure to cold and wind, especially due to infant care at night, you can use ginger water to take a bath. In addition, use hot water that’s been cooked with raw ginger for 30 minutes to wash your hair, and that relieve and prevent headaches. Be very careful to ensure your hair is fully dry after washing!
▶︎▶︎Ginger water for baths, hair washing and feet soaking:
➽Ingredients: raw ginger or old ginger with skin- 10-15 slices
➽Preparation: Rinse ginger thoroughly. Combine with 600ml of water in a pot and cook on high heat until boiling. Then turn to low heat and simmer for 30 minutes. When showering, bathing, hair washing or feet soaking, add in warm water as appropriate.
➽Effects: Dispels cold to keep warm. Relieves headaches after wind exposure and postpartum muscle sore.
